Essential requirements for the governance and management of data trusts, data repositories, and other data collaborations.

Introduction: Around the world, many organisations are working on ways to increase the use, sharing, and reuse of person-level data for research, evaluation, planning, and innovation while ensuring that data are secure and privacy is protected. As a contribution to broader efforts to improve data governance and management, in 2020 members of our team published 12 minimum specification essential requirements (min specs) to provide practical guidance for organisations establishing or operating data trusts and other forms of data infrastructure.

Approach And Aims: We convened an international team, consisting mostly of participants from Canada and the United States of America, to test and refine the original 12 min specs.

Four questions to guide decision-making for data sharing and integration.

Introduction: This paper presents a Four Question Framework to guide data integration partners in building a strong governance and legal foundation to support ethical data use.

Objectives: While this framework was developed based on work in the United States that routinely integrates public data, it is meant to be a simple, digestible tool that can be adapted to any context.

Methods: The framework was developed through a series of public deliberation workgroups and 15 years of field experience working with a diversity of data integration efforts across the United States.

Deep Learning Classification of Breast Cancer Tissue from Terahertz Imaging Through Wavelet Synchro-Squeezed Transformation and Transfer Learning.

Terahertz imaging and spectroscopy is an exciting technology that has the potential to provide insights in medical imaging. Prior research has leveraged statistical inference to classify tissue regions from terahertz images. To date, these approaches have shown that the segmentation problem is challenging for images of fresh tissue and for tumors that have invaded muscular regions.

Leveraging integrated data for program evaluation: Recommendations from the field.

Use of administrative data to inform decision making is now commonplace throughout the public sector, including program and policy evaluation. While reuse of these data can reduce costs, improve methodologies, and shorten timelines, challenges remain. This article informs evaluators about the growing field of Integrated Data Systems (IDS), and how to leverage cross-sector administrative data in evaluation work.

Hyperspectral terahertz imaging and optical clearance for cancer classification in breast tumor surgical specimen.

We investigate the enhancement in terahertz (THz) images of freshly excised breast tumors upon treatment with an optical clearance agent. The hyperspectral imaging and spectral classifications are used to quantitatively demonstrate the image enhancement. Glycerol solution with 60% concentration is applied to excised breast tumor specimens for various time durations to investigate the effectiveness on image enhancement.

Developmental impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on young children: a conceptual model for research with integrated administrative data systems.

The COVID-19 pandemic made its mark on the entire world, upending economies, shifting work and education, and exposing deeply rooted inequities. A particularly vulnerable, yet less studied population includes our youngest children, ages zero to five, whose proximal and distal contexts have been exponentially affected with unknown impacts on health, education, and social-emotional well-being. Integrated administrative data systems could be important tools for understanding these impacts.

Development of Antimicrobial Nitric Oxide-Releasing Fibers.

Nitric oxide (NO) is a highly reactive gas molecule, exhibiting antimicrobial properties. Because of its reactive nature, it is challenging to store and deliver NO efficiently as a therapeutic agent. The objective of this study was to develop NO-releasing polymeric fibers (NO-fibers), as an effective delivery platform for NO.

Allometric comparison of Georgia dairy heifers on farms and at youth shows.

Studies were conducted to determine the relationship between allometric measures of growth of Holstein dairy heifers and placing in the show ring, and to compare differences in growth between Holstein heifers that are shown and not shown. In the first study, 494 Holstein show heifers were evaluated at the 2012 and 2013 Georgia Junior National Livestock Shows. Measurements were obtained for weight, head length, withers height, hip height, thurl width, and tail length.

In our own voice-family companion: reducing self-stigma of family members of persons with serious mental illness.

Objective: This article reports preliminary findings from a novel, family peer-based intervention designed to reduce self-stigma among family members of people with serious mental illness.

Methods: A total of 158 primary caregivers of patients with schizophrenia were recruited from a large urban mental health facility (93 caregivers) or from a family and consumer advocacy organization (65 caregivers). Caregivers (N=122) who reported they perceived at least a moderate level of mental illness-related stigma were evaluated on measures of self-stigma, withdrawal, secrecy, anxiety, and social comparison and randomly assigned to receive one of two, one-session group interventions: a peer-led intervention (In Our Own Voice-Family Companion [IOOV-FC]) designed to stimulate group discussion or a clinician-led family education session, which delivered information about mental illness in a structured, didactic format.

Phytophthora citricola and P. cactorum cause bleeding cankers that lead to the death of mature European beech (Fagus sylvatica) in the northeastern United States. The effects of two fungicides and a plant growth regulator on in vitro pathogen characteristics and on canker expansion were investigated.
