CAP2 overexpression contributes to cancer progression in several tumor types; however, the role of CAP2 expression in ovarian cancer remains unclear. This study aimed to clarify the significance of CAP2 expression in epithelial ovarian tumor.

Antibiotic prescriptions for Japanese outpatients with acute respiratory tract infections (2013-2015): A retrospective Observational Study.

Objectives: Appropriate antibiotic prescriptions for outpatients with acute respiratory tract infections (ARTIs) are urgently needed in Japan. However, the empirical proof of this need is under-documented. Therefore, we aimed to determine antibiotic prescription rates, and the proportions of antibiotic classes prescribed for Japanese patients with ARTIs.

In this study, we used a nomogram developed by Beppu et al to evaluate the prognoses of 38 patients who underwent hepaticresec tion at our hospital. This nomogram predicts disease-free survival(DFS)after hepatic resection for colorectal liver metastasis based on 6 clinical and oncological factors.

A 67-year-old woman with a history of esophageal cancer(poorly-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma, pStageⅡ) was diagnosed with 2 liver tumors by regular checkup CT 10 years after her operation. We also observed elevated levels of tumor marker CEA. The tumors were suspected to be metastatic although no primary lesion was identified.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to confirm the validity of a short form of gross motor function measure for Fukuyama congenital muscular dystrophy (GMFM for FCMD).

Methods: This study is a case series and was conducted at the Tokyo Women's Medical University. Fifteen patients with FCMD were assessed using both the GMFM for FCMD with 68 items, which was created as a motor function measure for patients with FCMD on the basis of Rasch analysis, and the original GMFM with 88 items.

We utilized electrostatic interaction to induce rapid crystallization of streptavidin. Simply mixing streptavidins possessing either a positively or negatively charged peptide at their C-terminus generated diffraction-quality crystals in a few hours. We modified the streptavidin crystals with fluorescent molecules using biotin, demonstrating the concept of protein crystals as functional biomaterials.

Materials And Methods: This randomized, multicenter, open-label, phase III study evaluated the efficacy of POC in preventing everolimus-induced mucositis.

Hypophosphatasia (HPP) is a rare bone disease caused by inactivating mutations in the gene, which encodes tissue-nonspecific alkaline phosphatase (TNSALP). Patients with HPP have varied clinical manifestations and are classified based on the age of onset and severity. Recently, enzyme replacement therapy using bone-targeted recombinant alkaline phosphatase (ALP) has been developed, leading to improvement in the prognosis of patients with life-threatening HPP.

Bifurcation-diagram reconstruction estimates various attractors of a system without observing all of them but only from observing several attractors with different parameter values. Therefore, the bifurcation-diagram reconstruction can be used to investigate how attractors change with the parameter values, especially for real-world engineering and physical systems for which only a limited number of attractors can be observed. Although bifurcation diagrams of various systems have been reconstructed from time-series data generated in numerical experiments, the systems that have been targeted for reconstructing bifurcation diagrams from time series measured from physical phenomena so far have only been continuous-time dynamical systems.

Owing to its rarity and severe nature, the treatment for generalized pseudohypoaldosteronism type 1 (PHA1), a genetic disorder in the epithelial sodium channel (ENaC), is exclusively experience-based. In particular, the usefulness of dietary potassium restriction in PHA1 remains unclear with the absence of theoretical background to elucidate its utility. First, we demonstrated the effect of potassium restriction in a 13-month-old patient with ENaC γ-subunit gene mutations via a retrospective chart review; reduction of daily dietary potassium intake from 40 to 20 mEq induced rapid restoration of volume depletion, as evidenced by weight gain, elevation of the serum sodium level from 133 to 141 mEq/L, decreased urinary sodium excretion, and normalized renin activity.

Introduction: Cardiac metastasis is relatively common in malignant neoplasms, such as lung cancers, breast cancers, melanomas, lymphomas, and leukemias. In contrast, cardiac metastasis of uterine cervical cancer, solitary metastasis to the heart, and tumors inducing severe thrombocytopenia are rare.

Case Report: The present patient was a 52-year-old female who was diagnosed with a solitary cardiac tumor prior to uterine cervical cancer and presented with severe thrombocytopenia.

Breast Ultrasound Image Synthesis using Deep Convolutional Generative Adversarial Networks.

Deep convolutional generative adversarial networks (DCGANs) are newly developed tools for generating synthesized images. To determine the clinical utility of synthesized images, we generated breast ultrasound images and assessed their quality and clinical value. After retrospectively collecting 528 images of 144 benign masses and 529 images of 216 malignant masses in the breasts, synthesized images were generated using a DCGAN with 50, 100, 200, 500, and 1000 epochs.
