Background: The Integration and Evaluation of a Community-Level Dementia Screening Programme in rural KenYa (DEM-SKY) program, supported by the Davos Alzheimer's Collaborative, leverages existing community resources to promote early detection of dementia among older adults and strengthen health system policy and practice in Kenya.
Methods: The DEM-SKY program consisted of two key components: a training component and dementia screening component using then brief Community Screening Instrument for Dementia (brief-CSID). The training component was divided into two stakeholder groups: Community Health Workers (CHWs) and hospital staff.

Background: Walking is a key facilitator of healthy ageing and may reduce risk of cognitive decline in older adults. To develop suitable, accessible interventions, we must objectively consider the socio-ecological factors which influence participation in walking activities. For example, walking may be influenced by the volume and type of activities one's partner participates in (i.

This study aimed to assess the characteristics and outcomes of different AS phenotypes based on flow and gradient patterns.
Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, we included 930 patients who underwent transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) for severe symptomatic AS at Mayo Clinic sites from 2012-2017.
Background: The prognosis in patients with advanced cardiac amyloidosis (CA) remains poor.
Objectives: We sought to describe survival post heart transplantation (HT) in amyloid compared with non-amyloid recipients, highlight waitlist times within the new allocation system across three Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) regions, and describe multiorgan transplantation (MOT) in hereditary amyloidosis.
Methods: This is a retrospective review of end-stage CA patients who underwent HT at Mayo Clinic from January 2007 to December 2020.
Background: Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] is an independent, causal risk factor for cardiovascular disease. However, it is still unclear whether controlling low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) to optimal levels can attenuate cardiovascular risk mediated by elevated Lp(a), especially in the setting of secondary prevention.
Methods: Adult patients with a baseline Lp(a) measurement who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and reached their LDL-C target levels (<70 mg/dl) at Mayo Clinic sites between 2006 and 2017 were included.
In solid organs post-transplant, bacterial infections can complicate the course of recovery with devastating consequences, such as graft loss and death. We provide an expert review on early post-liver transplant bacterial infections, with a focus on infections with multi-drug-resistant organism (MDRO) etiologies. Best practice recommendations are derived from a combination of available evidence and expert consensus.

Safety concerns, particularly related to cardiovascular and cancer risks, prompted a need for additional investigation in real-world clinical settings. This study aimed to evaluate the long-term effectiveness and predictors of response to TOFA in two subpopulations of RA patients, categorized by differing cardiovascular risk profiles.

Methods: The present study was conducted in Buenos Aires City, Argentina during the 2018-2019 period. Two wild boars were used, one infected with 20,000 muscle larvae (ML) of and the other with .
Structural inequality, the uneven distribution of resources and opportunities, influences health outcomes. However, the biological embedding of structural inequality in aging and dementia, especially among underrepresented populations, is unclear. We examined the association between structural inequality (country-level and state-level Gini indices) and brain volume and connectivity in 2,135 healthy controls, and individuals with Alzheimer's disease and frontotemporal lobe degeneration from Latin America and the United States.

Its etiology is unclear, with potential links to endocrine disorders, trauma, and genetic factors. Unilateral condylar hyperplasia (UCH) typically presents in young patients but can occur at any age.

The increasing use of bioprosthetic valves in aortic valve replacement in younger patients and the subsequent rise in cases of BAVD are acknowledged in this review which aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the incidence, diagnosis, predictors, and management of BAVD. Based on a thorough review of the existing literature, this article provides an updated overview of the biological mechanisms underlying valve degeneration, including calcification, structural deterioration, and inflammatory processes and addresses the various risk factors contributing to BAVD, such as patient demographics, comorbidities, and procedural variables.

Prediction of intrapartum fetal compromise is particularly important in patients undergoing induction of labor due to different indications for delivery, as this can be a useful in optimizing the method and timing of the induction.
Objective: To examine whether the risk of preeclampsia assessed by the Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF) algorithm (derived from a combination of maternal risk factors, mean arterial pressure, placental growth factor and soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1), associates with the risk of intrapartum fetal compromise requiring cesarean delivery, in a population of singleton pregnancies undergoing labor induction for various indications.
Monte Carlo (MC) simulations can adequately describe photon migration in layered media; however, storing and querying the resulting dataset may be computationally prohibitive when detailed path data are needed for each photon trajectory. A heuristic approach that significantly reduces the stored information to the average path length traveled by the photons detected in each layer is proposed. Its accuracy is evaluated by comparing it with the exact time point spread function () for a bilayered medium.

Young adults (aged 18-39 years) are a neglected population in dementia research and policy making despite being highly exposed to several known modifiable risk factors. The risk and protective factors that have the biggest effect on dementia outcomes in young adulthood, and how these associations differ across regions and groups, still remain unclear.

However, large-scale, real-world data on CARV in these patients is limited. This study analyzed data from the EPICOVIDEHA-EPIFLUEHA registry, focusing on patients with HM diagnosed with CARV during the 2023-2024 autumn-winter season.

Research Question: How do ARDS epidemiologic characteristics change with operationalizing the new global definition of ARDS in a resource-limited setting?
Study Design And Methods: We performed a real-use retrospective cohort study among adult patients meeting criteria for the Berlin definition of ARDS or the global definition of ARDS at ICU admission in two public hospitals in the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health, South Africa, from January 2017 through June 2022.
Results: Among 5,760 adults (aged ≥ 18 years) admitted to the ICU, 2,027 patients (35.

Brexucabtagene autoleucel (brexu-cel) has revolutionized the treatment of patients affected by mantle cell lymphomas. In this prospective, observational multicentre study, we evaluated 106 patients, with longitudinal brexu-cel kinetics in peripheral blood monitored in 61 of them. Clinical outcomes and toxicities are consistent with previous real-world evidence studies.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has been shown to ablate tumors and induce an immune response. In our study, we investigated the effect of photodynamic therapy (PDT), using the photosensitizer Bremachlorin, in its ability to reduce tumor burden and to sensitize immunologically T-cell high and T-cell low murine PDAC tumors to the ICI that blocks programmed cell death-1 (PD-1) immune checkpoint.

This case report details the rapid deterioration of a previously healthy 49-year-old woman who presented with localized symptoms in her left thigh, later escalating to septic shock and multi-organ failure related to GAS infection. Initial evaluations indicated significant inflammation and acute kidney injury, prompting broad-spectrum antibiotic treatment.

Methods: Twenty-five partially edentulous patients requiring two single implants in molar/premolar areas had each site randomly allocated to either piezosurgery or to conventional rotary drill preparation according to a split-mouth design. Definitive screw-retained metal-ceramic crowns were delivered after 6 months.
