Roman writers found the relative empowerment of Celtic women remarkable. In southern Britain, the Late Iron Age Durotriges tribe often buried women with substantial grave goods. Here we analyse 57 ancient genomes from Durotrigian burial sites and find an extended kin group centred around a single maternal lineage, with unrelated (presumably inward migrating) burials being predominantly male.

Investigating the industrial origin of terpenoids in a coastal city in northern France: A source apportionment combining anthropogenic, biogenic, and oxygenated VOC.

Terpenoids have long been known to originate from natural sources. However, there is growing evidence for emissions from anthropogenic activities in cities, in particular from the production, manufacturing, and use of household solvents. Here, as part of the DATAbASE (Do Anthropogenic Terpenoids mAtter in AtmoSpheric chEmistry?) project, we investigate for the first time the potential role of industrial activities on the terpenoid burden in the urban atmosphere.

Overview of the Alaskan Layered Pollution and Chemical Analysis (ALPACA) Field Experiment.

The Alaskan Layered Pollution And Chemical Analysis (ALPACA) field experiment was a collaborative study designed to improve understanding of pollution sources and chemical processes during winter (cold climate and low-photochemical activity), to investigate indoor pollution, and to study dispersion of pollution as affected by frequent temperature inversions. A number of the research goals were motivated by questions raised by residents of Fairbanks, Alaska, where the study was held. This paper describes the measurement strategies and the conditions encountered during the January and February 2022 field experiment, and reports early examples of how the measurements addressed research goals, particularly those of interest to the residents.

Altered morphokinetics and differential reproductive outcomes associated with cell exclusion events in human embryos.

Research Question: Can embryos harbouring cell exclusion and their reproductive outcomes be classified based on morphokinetic profiles?

Design: A total of 469 time-lapse videos of embryos transferred between 2013 and 2019 from a single clinic were analysed. Videos were assessed and grouped according to the presence or absence of one or more excluded cells before compaction. Cell division timings, intervals between subsequent cell divisions and dynamic intervals were analysed to determine the morphokinetic profiles of embryos with cell exclusion (CE+), compared with fully compacted embryos without cell exclusion or extrusion (CE-).

Deep Learning on Bone Scintigraphy to Detect Abnormal Cardiac Uptake at Risk of Cardiac Amyloidosis.

Background: Cardiac uptake on technetium-99m whole-body scintigraphy (WBS) is almost pathognomonic of transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis. The rare false positives are often related to light-chain cardiac amyloidosis. However, this scintigraphic feature remains largely unknown, leading to misdiagnosis despite characteristic images.

Prospective Comparison of Thulium and Holmium Laser Lithotripsy for the Treatment of Upper Urinary Tract Lithiasis.

Background: Lithotripsy with holmium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Ho:YAG) laser is the current gold standard for treating stones of the upper urinary tract (UUT). The recently introduced thulium fiber laser (TFL) has the potential to be more efficient and as safe as Ho:YAG.

Objective: To compare the performance and complications between Ho:YAG and TFL for UUT lithotripsy.

Functional respiratory complaints among COVID-19 survivors: a prospective cohort study.

Background: Dyspnoea is a common persistent symptom after COVID-19. Whether it is associated with functional respiratory disorders remains unclear.

Methods: We assessed the proportion and characteristics of patients with "functional respiratory complaints" (FRCs) (as defined by Nijmegen Questionnaire >22) among 177 post-COVID-19 individuals who benefited from outclinic evaluation in the COMEBAC study (, symptomatic and/or intensive care unit (ICU) survivors at 4 months).

Of the body senses, vision is the most important for safe flight. Keratoconus causes progressive blurring and distortion of vision, which threatens the career of a civilian or military aviator. The goal of this retrospective study was to describe a series of keratoconus cases in a pilot population and to discuss decisions about their flight waivers.

Dyspnea assessment in myotonic dystrophy type 1.

In myotonic mystrophy type 1 (DM1), combining respiratory symptom screening and respiratory function testing, is crucial to identify the appropriate time for ventilatory support initiation. Dyspnea has been little investigated in DM1. To provide a multidimensional description of dyspnea, questionnaires assessing dyspnea were administered to 34 consecutive adult patients with DM1 (median (25th-75th centile) age of 36 (28-49), Vital Capacity (VC) of 74 (64-87)% of predicted value).

On the Stationarity Time of a Vehicle-to-Infrastructure Massive Radio Channel in a Line-of-Sight Suburban Environment.

Massive multiple-input multiple-output (mMIMO) communication systems are a pillar technology for 5G. However, the wireless radio channel models relying on the assumption of wide-sense stationary uncorrelated scattering (WSSUS) may not always be valid for dynamic scenarios. Nonetheless, an analysis of the stationarity time that validates this hypothesis for mMIMO vehicular channels as well as a clear relationship with the scattering properties is missing in the literature.

Application of a convolutional neural network to the quality control of MRI defacing.

Large-scale neuroimaging datasets present unique challenges for automated processing pipelines. Motivated by a large clinical trials dataset with over 235,000 MRI scans, we consider the challenge of defacing - anonymisation to remove identifying facial features. The defacing process must undergo quality control (QC) checks to ensure that the facial features have been removed and that the brain tissue is left intact.

Objectives: To report the tolerability, safety, and efficacy of the lyophilized amniotic membrane (AM) Visio-AMTRIX placed under a bandage contact lens (BCL) in treating persistent epithelial defects (PEDs).

Methods: This retrospective study included consecutive patients with PEDs treated with a lyophilized AM placed under the BCL. Patients with PEDs who did not respond to medical treatment were included.

They were often added to mineral oils (MOs) and used as dielectric fluids, which are nowadays classified as hazardous waste. Indeed, the Stockholm Convention aims to eliminate the use of equipment with PCB content greater than 0.

[Cardiac amyloidosis: State of art in 2022].

The 3 main types of cardiac amyloidosis are linked to two protein precursors: AL amyloidosis secondary to free light chain deposits in the context of monoclonal gammopathy (mainly of undetermined significance or myeloma) and transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTR), comprising wild-type transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTRwt for wild type) and hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTRv for variant). These diseases are underdiagnosed and highly prevalent in common cardiac phenotypes in recent studies (heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, severe aortic stenosis, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy). Myocardial amyloid infiltration affects all cardiac structures and clinically promotes predominantly heart failure, conductive disorders and cardioembolic events.

Identifying genetic determinants of inflammatory pain in mice using a large-scale gene-targeted screen.

Identifying the genetic determinants of pain is a scientific imperative given the magnitude of the global health burden that pain causes. Here, we report a genetic screen for nociception, performed under the auspices of the International Mouse Phenotyping Consortium. A biased set of 110 single-gene knockout mouse strains was screened for 1 or more nociception and hypersensitivity assays, including chemical nociception (formalin) and mechanical and thermal nociception (von Frey filaments and Hargreaves tests, respectively), with or without an inflammatory agent (complete Freund's adjuvant).

[Ocular toxicity of targeted therapies with MEK inhibitors and BRAF inhibitors in the treatment of metastatic cutaneous melanoma].

Introduction: Cutaneous melanoma is a malignant tumor, which develops from dermal melanocytes. Targeted therapies have changed the therapeutic management of metastatic melanoma and improved the survival rate. Among the various targeted therapies, MEK inhibitors and BRAF inhibitors have demonstrated efficacy, but they may lead to ocular toxicity.

Purpose: To assess the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown on the number and clinical characteristics of patients with retinal detachment (RD) in a French public university eye hospital.

Methods: Single-center, retrospective non-interventional study. Patients consulting at the emergency room (ER) of Quinze-Vingts Hospital (France) for rhegmatogenous RD before and after instauration of the lockdown were reviewed.
