Article Synopsis
  • This study monitored long-term safety data from participants who received the Ebola vaccines Ad26.ZEBOV and/or MVA-BN-Filo across 15 sites in seven countries.
  • A total of 614 adults were followed for 60 months post-vaccination, revealing that 8% experienced at least one serious adverse event (SAE), with a specific incidence rate calculated.
  • The study found no major safety concerns, as there were no deaths or life-threatening SAEs, and only one SAE was related to the vaccines, indicating their long-term safety.

Background: Ozanimod, a selective sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor modulator, is under investigation for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease.

Methods: We conducted a phase 3, multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of ozanimod as induction and maintenance therapy in patients with moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis. In the 10-week induction period, patients in cohort 1 were assigned to receive oral ozanimod hydrochloride at a dose of 1 mg (equivalent to 0.

Background The interpretation of radiographs suffers from an ever-increasing workload in emergency and radiology departments, while missed fractures represent up to 80% of diagnostic errors in the emergency department. Purpose To assess the performance of an artificial intelligence (AI) system designed to aid radiologists and emergency physicians in the detection and localization of appendicular skeletal fractures. Materials and Methods The AI system was previously trained on 60 170 radiographs obtained in patients with trauma.

Context: Congenital pituitary hormone deficiencies with syndromic phenotypes and/or familial occurrence suggest genetic hypopituitarism; however, in many such patients the underlying molecular basis of the disease remains unknown.

Objective: To describe patients with syndromic hypopituitarism due to biallelic loss-of-function variants in TBC1D32, a gene implicated in Sonic Hedgehog (Shh) signaling.

Setting: Referral center.

Background And Aims: Genetic partial lipodystrophies are rare heterogeneous disorders characterized by abnormalities of fat distribution and associated metabolic complications including a predisposition for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. We hypothesized that the milder forms of these diseases might be underdiagnosed and might result in early acute coronary syndrome (ACS) as the first sign of the pathology.

Methods: We performed targeted sequencing on a panel of 8 genes involved in genetic lipodystrophy for 62 patients with premature ACS, and selected heterozygous missense variations with low frequency.

Background: In this prospective study, we used magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to assess long-term Achilles tendon length, calf muscle volume, and muscle fatty degeneration after surgery for acute Achilles tendon rupture.

Methods: From 1998 to 2001, 60 patients at our center underwent surgery for acute Achilles tendon rupture followed by early functional postoperative rehabilitation. Fifty-five patients were reexamined after a minimum duration of follow-up of 13 years (mean, 14 years), and 52 of them were included in the present study.

Purpose: The extent to which neurosensory disturbance (NSD) affects patients after bilateral sagittal split osteotomy (BSSO) was investigated 1 year postoperatively. An additional aim was to identify related factors.

Materials And Methods: In this prospective study, the fate of the mandibular nerve during BSSO was recorded.

Article Synopsis
  • This study identifies new defects in mitochondrial translation elongation factor Ts (EFTs) linked to health issues like infantile cardiomyopathy and juvenile neurological disorders, particularly in Finland where these mutations are common.
  • Using techniques like DNA analysis and whole-exome sequencing, researchers found specific mutations in the TSFM gene that lead to serious conditions in two siblings, now expanded to other patients with similar symptoms.
  • The findings suggest that TSFM mutations should be considered in diagnosing childhood and juvenile encephalopathies alongside traditional infantile cardiomyopathy, highlighting the need for broader awareness of these mutations and their effects.

Background: The Gram negative anaerobic bacterium Porphyromonas gingivalis has long been recognized as a causative agent of periodontitis. Periodontitis is a chronic infectious disease of the tooth supporting tissues eventually leading to tooth-loss. Capsular polysaccharide (CPS) of P.

AnOV is a pi-conjugated radical built from an anthracene (An) unit linked by a p-phenylene to an oxoverdazyl (OV) moiety. The mono-oxidized (cationic) form of AnOV was generated both electrochemically and photochemically (in the presence of an electron acceptor). The triplet nature (S=1) of the electronic ground state of AnOV(+) was demonstrated by combining spectroelectrochemistry, electron-spin resonance (ESR) experiments, and ab initio molecular orbital (MO) calculations.

The synthesis and characterization of the new ligands L(1), L(2) and L(4) are described with the series of four europium complexes of formula [EuL(n)(TTA)(3)] in which TTA refers to 2-thenoyltrifluoroacetonate and L(n) to tridentate ligands with nitrogen containing heterocyclic structure, such as a 2,6-bis(3-methyl-pyrazolyl)-4-(p-toluyl-ethynyl)-triazine for L(1), or terpyridines functionalized at the 4' position by a phenyl-vinylene for L(2), a p-dimethylamino-phenylene for L(3), or a p-aminophenyl-ethynylene for L(4). The spectroscopic properties of the ligands and of the complexes are studied by means of UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy, as well as steady-state and time-resolved luminescence spectroscopy. All complexes display europium centred luminescence upon ligand excitation.

Objective: To investigate the transplacental transfer of the macrolide antibiotics erythromycin, roxithromycin and azithromycin.

Methods: Twenty-one term placentas were obtained with maternal consent immediately after delivery and a two-hour nonrecirculating perfusion of a single placental cotyledon was performed. Erythromycin (2 microg/mL), roxithromycin (2 microg/mL) and azithromycin (0.
