Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the link between serum glucose/potassium ratio (GPR) and adverse outcomes in patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF).
  • Data was taken from the TOPCAT trial, with the primary focus on cardiovascular mortality, cardiac arrest, and hospitalization rates related to HF.
  • Results indicate that higher GPR levels are associated with significant risks for poor outcomes, particularly for patients without diabetes or with less severe heart failure symptoms, highlighting a J-shaped relationship between GPR and prognosis.

Since the first outbreak in December 2019, SARS-CoV-2 has been constantly evolving and five variants have been classified as Variant of Concern (VOC) by the World Health Organization (WHO). These VOCs were found to enhance transmission and/or decrease neutralization capabilities of monoclonal antibodies and vaccine-induced antibodies. Here, we successfully designed and produced a recombinant COVID-19 vaccine in CHO cells at a high yield.

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to have an unprecedented impact on societies and economies worldwide. There remains an ongoing need for high-performance SARS-CoV-2 tests which may be broadly deployed for infection monitoring. Here we report a highly sensitive single molecule array (Simoa) immunoassay in development for detection of SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein (N-protein) in venous and capillary blood and saliva.

The COVID-19 pandemic has become a major worldwide crisis. Although respiratory symptoms are a key feature of the disease, many people who are hospitalized with COVID-19 also suffer acute kidney injury, a condition that exacerbates patient mortality and may have to be treated through renal replacement therapy. Much of the focus on hospital capacity during the pandemic has centered on the availability of ventilators.

Background: Admission blood pressure was closely associated with adverse cardiac events in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients. However, data regarding comparison of resting postoperative systolic, diastolic, and mean blood pressure and pulse pressure with short- and long-term mortality in patients with acute coronary syndrome undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) was still lacking.

Methods: The study analyzed 1987 ACS patients undergoing primary PCI, between January 2014 and October 2018.

In this retrospective study, chest CTs of 121 symptomatic patients infected with coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) from four centers in China from January 18, 2020 to February 2, 2020 were reviewed for common CT findings in relationship to the time between symptom onset and the initial CT scan (i.e. early, 0-2 days (36 patients), intermediate 3-5 days (33 patients), late 6-12 days (25 patients)).

In this retrospective case series, chest CT scans of 21 symptomatic patients from China infected with the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) were reviewed, with emphasis on identifying and characterizing the most common findings. Typical CT findings included bilateral pulmonary parenchymal ground-glass and consolidative pulmonary opacities, sometimes with a rounded morphology and a peripheral lung distribution. Notably, lung cavitation, discrete pulmonary nodules, pleural effusions, and lymphadenopathy were absent.

Innate lymphoid cells (ILCs) are tissue-resident lymphocytes categorized on the basis of their core regulatory programs and the expression of signature cytokines. Human ILC3s that produce the cytokine interleukin-22 convert into ILC1-like cells that produce interferon-γ in vitro, but whether this conversion occurs in vivo remains unclear. In the present study we found that ILC3s and ILC1s in human tonsils represented the ends of a spectrum that included additional discrete subsets.

Low-potential electrochemiluminescence (ECL) luminophores with excellent ECL behavior have attracted considerable interest in biological analysis. Herein, we explored the ECL behavior of ZnTPP with different aggregates for the first time. In this work, we used the mixed solvent method to prepare the H- and J-aggregates of zinc tetraphenylporphyrin (ZnTPP).

Immunodeficient mice reconstituted with a human immune system represent a promising tool for translational research as they may allow modeling and therapy of human diseases in vivo. However, insufficient development and function of human natural killer (NK) cells and T cell subsets limit the applicability of humanized mice for studying cancer biology and therapy. Here, we describe a human interleukin 15 () and human signal regulatory protein alpha () knock-in mouse on a background (SRG-15).

Objective: Hyperlipidemia-induced endothelial cell (EC) activation is considered as an initial event responsible for monocyte recruitment in atherogenesis. However, it remains poorly defined what is the mechanism underlying hyperlipidemia-induced EC activation. Here, we tested a novel hypothesis that mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (mtROS) serve as signaling mediators for EC activation in early atherosclerosis.

Background: To investigate the relationship between progressive development of mouse pulmonary tumors and expression of cell surface saccharide and to provide a theoretical basis for diagnosis of pulmonary benign and malignant lesions..

Methods: A/J strain mice at 5 weeks of age were treated intraperitoneally with 20-methylcholanthrene, and 292 pulmonary lesions including 237 benign lesions (hyperplasia, alveolar adenoma, and papillary adenoma) and 55 malignant tumors (papillary adenocarcinoma) were obtained.

Background: To study the correlation of cyclin D₁ oncoprotein with a mutated p53 in pulmonary tumors progression.

Methods: Thirty-one male A/J strain mice were treated intraperitoneally with a single injection of 20-methylcholanthrene and sacirificed at various ages. A total of 292 lesions in various histological type were obtained.
