The drainage of brain interstitial fluid (ISF) has been observed to slow down following neuronal excitation, although the mechanism underlying this phenomenon is yet to be elucidated. In searching for the changes in the brain extracellular space (ECS) induced by electrical pain stimuli in the rat thalamus, significantly decreased effective diffusion coefficient (D) and volume fraction (α) of the brain ECS were shown, accompanied by the slowdown of ISF drainage. The morphological basis for structural changes in the brain ECS was local spatial deformation of astrocyte foot processes following neuronal excitation.

The switch between osteogenic and adipogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) plays a key role in aging-induced osteoporosis. In this study, miR-19a-3p was obviously downregulated in BMSCs from aged humans and mice. Overexpressed miR-19a-3p evidently reduced aging-induced bone loss in mice and promoted osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs, while silenced miR-19a-3p manifestly increased aging-induced bone loss in mice and repressed osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs.

The goal of this review was to summarize current biochemical mechanisms of and risk factors for diabetic brain injury. We mainly summarized mechanisms published in the past three years and focused on diabetes induced cognitive impairment, diabetes-linked Alzheimer's disease, and diabetic stroke. In this study we retrospectively reviewed the clinical and laboratory characteristics of 18 COVID-19 patients from January 30, 2020 to February 21, 2020. Postmenopausal osteoporosis is characterized by excess osteoclastogenesis which leads to net bone loss and brittle fractures. Studies have demonstrated that estrogen deficiency-associated bone loss is microbiota-dependent and could be prevented by probiotics and prebiotics. In this study, we report that orally administered lactulose (20 g/kg, 6 weeks) orally administered significantly inhibited osteoclastogenesis, bone resorption, and prevented ovariectomy (OVX)-induced bone loss in mice.

The complex pathology of chronic thoracic spinal cord compression involves vascular and neuroarchitectural repair processes that are still largely unknown. In this study, we used synchrotron radiation microtomography (SRμCT) to quantitatively characterize the 3D temporal-spatial changes in the vascular and neuronal network after chronic thoracic spinal cord compression in order to obtain further insights into the pathogenesis of this disease and to elucidate its underlying mechanisms. Direct 3D characterization of the spinal cord microvasculature and neural microstructure of the thoracic spinal cord was successfully reconstructed.
