Reversible modification of the histone H3 N-terminal tail is critical in regulating the chromatin structure, gene expression, and cell states, while its dysregulation contributes to disease pathogenesis. Understanding the crosstalk between H3 tail modifications in nucleosomes constitutes a central challenge in epigenetics. Patient health status was assessed using the 12-item Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire (range, 0-100; higher scores are better).
Background: Information about health-related quality of life (HRQOL) among caregivers of older patients with heart failure who receive heart transplantation (HT) and mechanical circulatory support (MCS) is sparse. We describe differences and factors associated with change in HRQOL before and early post-surgery among caregivers of older heart failure patients who underwent 3 surgical therapies: HT with pretransplant MCS (HT MCS), HT without pretransplant MCS (HT non-MCS), and long-term MCS.
Methods: Caregivers of older patients (60-80 years) from 13 US sites completed the EQ-5D-3 L visual analog scale (0 [worst]-100 [best] imaginable health state) and dimensions before and 3 and 6 months post-surgery.

The Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2017 study used methods to provide highly detailed estimates of global injury burden that meet these criteria.
Methods: In this study, we report and discuss the methods used in GBD 2017 for injury morbidity and mortality burden estimation.
Background: Nitrous oxide can induce neurotoxicity. The authors hypothesized that exposure to nitrous oxide impairs axonal regeneration and functional recovery after central nervous system injury.
Methods: The consequences of single and serial in vivo nitrous oxide exposures on axon regeneration in four experimental male rat models of nervous system injury were measured: in vitro axon regeneration in cell culture after in vivo nitrous oxide administration, in vivo axon regeneration after sharp spinal cord injury, in vivo axon regeneration after sharp optic nerve injury, and in vivo functional recovery after blunt contusion spinal cord injury.

Carbocyclic oxetanocin analogues (A, 1d; G, 2d) and related compounds including 4b were assayed against a broad variety of viruses. It appeared that the activity of 2d against herpes simplex virus (HSV) and varicella-zoster virus (VZV) at least partially depends on phosphorylation by the virus-induced thymidine kinase (TK).
