Background: The primary aim of this Phase I study was to determine the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) of TPI 287 and the safety and tolerability of TPI 287 alone and in combination with temozolomide (TMZ) in pediatric patients with refractory or recurrent neuroblastoma or medulloblastoma. The secondary aims were to evaluate the pharmacokinetics of TPI 287 and the treatment responses.
Procedure: Eighteen patients were enrolled to a phase I dose escalation trial of weekly intravenous infusion of TPI 287 for two 28-day cycles with toxicity monitoring to determine the MTD, followed by two cycles of TPI 287 in combination with TMZ.
The development of genetic competence in Bacillus subtilis is regulated by a complex signal transduction cascade, which results in the synthesis of the competence transcription factor, encoded by comK. ComK is required for the transcription of the late competence genes that encode the DNA binding and uptake machinery and of genes required for homologous recombination. In vivo and in vitro experiments have shown that ComK is responsible for transcription activation at the comG promoter.

In this document the application of open information technology to assist in reforming healthcare systems of countries is being discussed. Present technologies demonstrated by HANSA in Western and Eastern Europe enable the integration of electronic patient records in existing systems, provide for flexibility and support the interoperability of different applications. However, computers and IT must not drive the required process of change.

It starts from some critical failure factors, found with previous attempts to standardise the electronic health record. Standardisation appears to be the key issue: the subject of standardisation requires delicate positioning.
