Refugees flee from countries due to war, violence, or persecution and are often exposed to potentially traumatic events (PTEs). Furthermore, they might encounter situations where they are compelled to act contrary to their moral codes or witness others acting morally wrong. Consequently, they are at risk to not only develop symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), but also moral injury (MI).

This viewpoint is written by authors with industrial, clinical, and academic backgrounds within medical and social sciences. The purpose is to share our experiences with digital health innovation from a sociotechnical perspective. The audience for the viewpoint is innovators, researchers, service designers, and project managers with little or some experience with theory-informed programs, complex interventions, and implementation or reorganization of sociotechnical ecosystems in health care.
