Sleep Breath
May 2016
Background: Obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) is an independent risk factor for hypertension, coronary artery disease, and diabetes mellitus. Epicardial fat has been recently recognized as a new risk factor and active participant on cardiometabolic risk. The aim of this study was to assess an independent relationship between sleep apnea severity, metabolic and vascular markers, and epicardial fat, at baseline and after 3 months of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy.

Purpose: To study the correlation between endometrial thickness and IVF outcome and factors affecting this relation.
Methods: Transvaginal ultrasound evaluation of endometrial thickness on hCG administration day in 112 IVF-ET cycles and comparison to indices of ovarian stimulation. Outcome was considered positive when fetal sac and fetal heart pulse were present at ultrasound.
Objective: To present a successful IVF frozen-embryo replacement cycle in a 44-year-old woman, using her own oocytes.
Design: Case report.
Setting: Assisted reproduction unit in a university hospital.
A case of heterotopic pregnancy after spontaneous conception with abortion of the intrauterine pregnancy and subsequent rupture of the ectopic pregnancy is presented. A 34-year-old woman at five weeks of gestation presented with a ruptured ectopic pregnancy after spontaneous abortion of an intrauterine pregnancy with mIU/ml beta3hCG as low as 125 mIU/ml. Close monitoring of betahCG and careful ultrasound examination together with patient consultation are extremely important in the management of heterotopic pregnancy, especially in cases of diagnostic uncertainness.
