Seismic risk mitigation at Campi Flegrei in volcanic unrest.

Campi Flegrei is a densely populated volcanic area in Italy. Its inner caldera periodically experiences uplift and subsidence, known as bradyseism, also accompanied by seismic activity. In the last decade, with uplift rates up to 2 cm/month, about nine-thousand earthquakes were recorded.

Pump-probe experiments investigate the strain sensitivity of crustal elastic properties, showing nonlinear variations during the strain cycle. In the laboratory, pre-seismic reductions in seismic velocity indicate that asperity contacts within the fault zone begin to fail before the macroscopic frictional sliding. The recognition of such effects in natural seismic-cycles has been challenging.

Pharmacogenomics of clinical response to Natalizumab in multiple sclerosis: a genome-wide multi-centric association study.

Background: Inter-individual differences in treatment response are marked in multiple sclerosis (MS). This is true for Natalizumab (NTZ), to which a subset of patients displays sub-optimal treatment response. We conducted a multi-centric genome-wide association study (GWAS), with additional pathway and network analysis to identify genetic predictors of response to NTZ.

Chemical pneumonitis secondary to accidental pulmonary polyethylene glycol-electrolyte solution infusion in a cat.

Objective: To describe the successful conservative management of chemical pneumonitis and presumed acute respiratory distress syndrome in a cat secondary to inadvertent pulmonary polyethylene glycol-electrolyte solution (PEG-ELS) instillation.

Case Summary: PEG-ELS is commonly used in small animals for bowel cleansing and to treat constipation. There have been several instances of aspiration or accidental instillation of this solution into the lungs of both people and dogs.

Earthquake source parameters in Zagros region (Iran) from the time-evolutive P-wave displacement.

The rupture process of the recent moderate-to-large earthquakes in the Zagros area along the Iran plateau is investigated by analysing the strong motion data provided by the Iranian Building and Housing Research Centre (BHRC). The selected dataset includes the largest and deadliest 2017 Mw 7.3, Iran-Iraq (Ezgeleh) earthquake.
