Aim: Evaluating the fracture resistance of dental ceramics is essential for assessing their behavior. This study aimed to validate a custom load-to-fracture test for assessing fracture strength compared to a conventional method.

Materials And Methods: Acoustic emission testing, a non-destructive (ND) lab test, was employed to evaluate the fracture toughness (FT) of brittle materials by capturing sound waves generated by crack formation in failing samples.

Article Synopsis
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are common in emergency departments, and this study evaluated the necessity of broad-spectrum treatment for hospitalized patients with community-acquired UTIs (CAUTIs).
  • Conducted over two years at a major Lebanese tertiary care center, the study analyzed data from adult patients to determine treatment adherence, characteristics of CAUTIs, and risks associated with extended spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) infections.
  • Results indicated that most patients received appropriate ESBL-targeting treatment, but 46% required adjustments, emphasizing the need for better monitoring of drug-resistant bacteria and stronger local treatment guidelines.

Pharmacogenomic testing has emerged as an aid in clinical decision making for psychiatric providers, but more data is needed regarding its utility in clinical practice and potential impact on patient care. In this cross-sectional study, we determined the real-world prevalence of pharmacogenomic actionability in patients receiving psychiatric care. Potential actionability was based on the prevalence of CYP2C19 and CYP2D6 phenotypes, including CYP2D6 allele-specific copy number variations (CNVs).

The etiology of prostate cancer, the second most common cancer in men globally, has a strong heritable component. While rare coding germline variants in several genes have been identified as risk factors from candidate gene and linkage studies, the exome-wide spectrum of causal rare variants remains to be fully explored. To more comprehensively address their contribution, we analysed data from 37,184 prostate cancer cases and 331,329 male controls from five cohorts with germline exome/genome sequencing and one cohort with imputed array data from a population enriched in low-frequency deleterious variants.

Aim: The objective of this study was to assess marginal bone level around single implants inserted in fresh extraction sockets in the anterior maxillary region and instantly restored with computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing customized temporary crowns cemented on the final abutment.

Materials And Methods: A total of 20 patients (15 females and 5 males, with a mean age of 30 years), where 20 were placed in fresh extraction sockets. After raising a full-thickness flap, atraumatic extraction was performed the implant site was prepared and fixtures were stabilized on the palatal bone wall.
