Objective: To determine if prenatal, pregnancy, or postpartum-related environmental factors are associated with multiple sclerosis (MS) risk in children.

Methods: This is a case-control study of children with MS or clinically isolated syndrome and healthy controls enrolled at 16 clinics participating in the US Network of Pediatric MS Centers. Parents completed a comprehensive environmental questionnaire, including the capture of pregnancy and perinatal factors.

The thrombolytic effect of urokinase was tested on cat retinal vein thrombus induced by argon laser photocoagulation. At various time intervals after thrombosis, intravenous infusion or subconjunctival injections were given. Subconjunctival normal saline injections were used for controls.

Two cases of intralenticular foreign bodies are reported. In the first, a foreign body composed of copper had been embedded in the lens for about 40 years, but had produced only a localized cataract. In the second, the foreign body, presumably composed of stone, remained undiagnosed for one and a half years.

Three patients with various manifestations of the amniotic band syndrome associated with strabismus are presented and discussed. All three cases demonstrate a paralytic strabismus due to a unilateral paresis-paralysis of the medial rectus in one case and of the superior rectus in another. The third case showed a bilateral lateral rectus paralysis.
