: A degenerative joint disease that primarily affects elderly individuals, osteoarthritis (OA) causes pain, decreased mobility, and a lower quality of life. Procaine is regarded as a "veteran" medicine due to its extensive clinical use, although it remains a molecule of interest, as researchers are uncovering new biological and pharmacological effects through innovative experimental methods. This study evaluates the efficacy of the "procaine complex", developed in our country, in alleviating pain and improving functionality in elderly individuals with osteoarthritis of the knee and hip.

Prevention, assessment, and identification of drug-drug interactions (DDIs) represent a challenge for healthcare professionals, especially in nosocomial settings. This narrative review aims to provide a thorough assessment of the most clinically significant DDIs for antibiotics used in healthcare-associated infections. Complex poly-pharmaceutical regimens, targeting multiple pathogens or targeting one pathogen in the presence of another comorbidity, have an increased predisposition to result in life-threatening DDIs.

One of the most complex and challenging developments at the beginning of the third millennium is the alarming increase in demographic aging, mainly-but not exclusively-affecting developed countries. This reality results in one of the harsh medical, social, and economic consequences: the continuously increasing number of people with dementia, including Alzheimer's disease (AD), which accounts for up to 80% of all such types of pathology. Its large and progressive disabling potential, which eventually leads to death, therefore represents an important public health matter, especially because there is no known cure for this disease.

Adult stem cells depend on their niches for regulatory signaling that controls their maintenance, division, and their progeny differentiation. While communication between various types of stem cells and their niches is becoming clearer, the process of stem cell niche establishment is still not very well understood. Model genetic organisms provide simplified systems to address various complex questions, for example, how is a stem cell niche formed? What signaling cascades induce the stem cell niche formation? Are the mechanisms of stem cell niche formation conserved? Notch signaling is an evolutionarily conserved pathway first identified in fruit flies, crucial in fate acquisition and spatiotemporal patterning.

Radioiodine (131I) therapy for differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) involves exposure of the whole body, including the heart, to ionizing radiation. This exposure to the subsequent risk of heart disease is uncertain, especially in patients with DTC associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DTC/+T2DM). The current study aimed to assess the relationship between left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), high cumulative 131I dose, and peripheral blood parameters in patients with DTC/−T2DM and DTC/+T2DM.
