The impact of hypoalbuminemia on the long-term prognosis of patients with acute heart failure: The modifying role of carbohydrate antigen 125.

Aims: Hypoalbuminemia is frequently found in patients with heart failure (HF), associated with higher morbimortality in acute HF (AHF). Moreover, Carbohydrate Antigen 125 (CA125) is elevated in most of the AHF patients. In this cohort of patients admitted for AHF, our objective was to evaluate the association between hypoalbuminemia and long-term outcomes, including mortality and HF readmissions, stratified by CA125 concentration.

Methods: We reviewed the electronic medical records of 5009 randomly selected T2DM patients, from 70 health centers in Spain. We analyzed results by age group and presence/absence of obesity.

Light-dependent modulation of protein localization and function in living bacteria cells.

Most bacteria lack membrane-enclosed organelles and rely on macromolecular scaffolds at different subcellular locations to recruit proteins for specific functions. Here, we demonstrate that the optogenetic CRY2-CIB1 system from Arabidopsis thaliana can be used to rapidly direct proteins to different subcellular locations with varying efficiencies in live Escherichia coli cells, including the nucleoid, the cell pole, the membrane, and the midcell division plane. Such light-induced re-localization can be used to rapidly inhibit cytokinesis in actively dividing E.

SmartChart Suite: a Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources-based framework for longitudinal syphilis surveillance using structured and unstructured data.

Objective: The resurgence of syphilis in the United States presents a significant public health challenge. Much of the information needed for syphilis surveillance resides in electronic health records (EHRs). In this manuscript, we describe a surveillance platform for automating the extraction of EHR data, known as SmartChart Suite, and the results from a pilot.
