We conducted a multiple logistic regression analysis to identify factors associated with their consumption of salt exceeding the recommended daily salt intake (≥ 5 g/day). This study aimed to determine whether the combined results of several physical performance tests can predict the subsequent incidence of fractures in elderly men after adjusting for confounding factors.
Methods: Of the 2174 elderly men who participated in this study, 2012 completed the baseline study visit, including physical performance tests (walking speed, hand grip strength, and one-leg standing) and measurement of bone mineral density by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry.
Unlabelled: Areal BMD (aBMD) from DXA is not a sufficiently accurate predictor of fracture. Novel volumetric BMD derived from 3D modeling of the hip from DXA images significantly improved the predictive ability for hip fracture relative to aBMD at the femoral neck, but not aBMD at the total hip.
