Aim: Real-world data (RWD) for paliperidone palmitate (PP) three-monthly (PP3M) is lacking based on Japan label requirements. This study evaluated the clinical effectiveness of PP3M versus PP once-monthly (PP1M) in patients with schizophrenia administered according to Japan label requirements.

Methods: Retrospective analyses were conducted using RWD from Merative™ MarketScan® Multi-State Medicaid (MDCD) claims database (June 2015-December 2022).

Atypical femoral fracture (AFF) is generally a rare complication of long-term use of bisphosphonate (BP); glucocorticoid (GC) use and Asian race are also risk factors. Femoral localized periosteal thickening (LPT, also termed "beaking") of the lateral cortex often precedes AFF. This cohort study investigated the incidence of LPT and AFF and their clinical courses over 10 yr in patients with autoimmune inflammatory rheumatic diseases (AIRDs) treated with BP and GC.

Article Synopsis
  • - Adult-onset Still's disease (AOSD) is characterized by symptoms like fever, rash, and joint pain due to autoinflammation, and the patient's complement titer was notably low during her condition's onset.
  • - The female patient, in her 60s, presented with elevated white blood cell counts and ferritin levels, but tested negative for common autoimmune markers and infections, leading to a diagnosis of hypocomplementemia.
  • - Despite receiving several standard treatments including corticosteroids, her condition did not improve until she was treated with intravenous cyclophosphamide, which resulted in remission and normalized her complement levels, highlighting the potential of low complement levels as an indicator of severe disease activity and treatment resistance.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to evaluate the link between anti-ribosomal P antibody (anti-RibP) levels and disease activity in Japanese patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), including 80 individuals from Niigata University Hospital.
  • Results showed that 30 patients tested positive for anti-RibP, which correlated with more severe symptoms like skin rashes and increased inflammatory cytokine levels, particularly in younger patients.
  • The findings suggest that anti-RibP, especially its IgG3 subclass, is significantly associated with SLE severity and could be used as an indicator for disease management, indicating the need for higher initial treatment doses in certain cases.
