Article Synopsis
  • This study aimed to analyze the hemodynamics of a new animal model of Fontan physiology, which is important for understanding poor long-term outcomes in Fontan patients.
  • Researchers created a single-stage Fontan model in juvenile sheep and conducted detailed hemodynamic assessments.
  • Results showed that only a fraction of the sheep survived, with survival rates improving over time due to a learning curve; the study identified key hemodynamic characteristics but noted anatomical differences that affected the model's accuracy, suggesting surgical modifications could enhance future studies.

Municipal wastewater treatment systems use the chemical oxygen demand test (COD) to identify organic contaminants in industrial effluents that impede treatment due to their high concentration. This study reduced the COD levels in tannery wastewater using a multistage treatment process that included Fenton oxidation, chemical coagulation, and nanotechnology based on a synthetic soluble COD standard solution. At an acidic pH of 5, Fenton oxidation reduces the COD concentration by approximately 79%.

Background: The prevalence of long diffuse coronary artery disease (CAD) is increasing nowadays due to increase prevalence of multiple risk factors and population ageing. We aimed in our study to show the differences clinically or angiographically (guided by IVUS) between the use of single long stent versus overlapping stents in very long coronary lesions (≥40 mm) in patients presented with chronic coronary syndromes.

Methods: 550 patients presenting with chronic coronary syndromes were included: 320 treated with a single long stent (≥40 mm) and 230 patients with two or more overlapping stents.
