Tungsten suboxide WO nanowhiskers are a material of great interest due to their potential high-end applications in electronics, near-infrared light shielding, catalysis, and gas sensing. The present study introduces three main approaches for the fundamental understanding of WO nanowhisker growth and structure. First, WO nanowhiskers were grown from γ-WO/-SiO nanofibers in a scanning electron microscope (SEM) utilizing a specially designed microreactor (μReactor).

Objective: Emergency physicians are expected to rule out clinically important cervical spine injuries using clinical skills and imaging. Our objective was to determine whether emergency physicians could accurately rule out clinically important cervical spine injuries using computed tomographic (CT) imaging of the cervical spine.

Method: Fifteen emergency physicians were enrolled to interpret a sample of 50 cervical spine CT scans in a nonclinical setting.

The quality of anticoagulation was evaluated in 5 patients receiving heparin during chronic hemodialysis. 50 kinetic studies were performed using 2 monitoring tests, TTPK and TCK. Basal and intradialysis measurements were used to estimate sensitivity and the elimination constant according to formulae described by Milthorpe.

We evaluated the results of hemodialysis performed with 106 double lumen catheters in 87 patients (mean age 52, range 10-82). 46 patients had chronic and 38 acute renal failure; 2 had respiratory distress syndrome and one refractory heart failure. Catheter flow ranged from 100 to 250 ml/min (mean 207) and effective clearance from 64 to 171 ml/min (mean 125).
