Background: Shiga toxin-associated hemolytic uremic syndrome (STECHUS) is the main cause of acute kidney injury in children and may be responsible for adverse outcomes despite an apparent quiescent period.

Objective: To describe the medium- and long-term kidney outcomes of pediatric STECHUS in a French region.

Methods: A single-center, descriptive, retrospective study of STECHUS cases that occurred at Besançon University Hospital between 1999 and 2017 in children up to 17 years of age was conducted.

Guidelines for data-driven approaches to study transitions in multiscale systems: The case of Lyapunov vectors.

This study investigates the use of covariant Lyapunov vectors and their respective angles for detecting transitions between metastable states in dynamical systems, as recently discussed in several atmospheric sciences applications. In a first step, the needed underlying dynamical models are derived from data using a non-parametric model-based clustering framework. The covariant Lyapunov vectors are then approximated based on these data-driven models.

Neurodevelopmental consequences of early plasma sodium changes in very preterm infants.

Background: Sodium fluctuations in very preterm neonates and their neurodevelopmental consequences are not well described.

Methods: We assessed the changes in plasma sodium and glucose in the first days of life in very preterm neonates and studied the association of glucose-corrected plasma sodium fluctuations on neurodevelopmental outcomes. We included 147 consecutive neonates born before 29 weeks of gestation in our center and retrospectively obtained plasma sodium, glucose, and glucose-corrected sodium levels.

Materials And Methods: Retrospective study of 77 patients, 152 SLT sessions performed in the Ophthalmology Department of Clermont-Ferrand University Medical Center, 118 SLT-1, 34 SLT-2.

[Case report of a 2-year-old child with palpebral rhabdomyosarcoma].

Rhabdomyosarcoma is an extremely virulent rare tumor whose early diagnosis considerably improves survival and visual prognosis. We report the case of a 2-year-old child with levator palpebrae superioris muscle rhabdomyosarcoma revealed by a sudden and isolated blepharoptosis. Initially, clinical and imaging investigations did not show any abnormality but a painful tumor with some hematoma quickly developed, so the investigations were repeated.
