Background: Depression and circadian rhythm disruptions are non-cognitive neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS) that can appear at any stage of the Alzheimer's disease (AD) continuum. Evidence suggests that NPS are linked to AD pathophysiology and hippocampal dysfunction.

Objective: To examine structural white matter (WM) connectivity and its association with gray matter (GM) atrophy and to identify specific AD-related neural networks linked to NPS in individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI).

Introduction: Up to 50% of diabetic patients with neuropathy suffer from chronic pain, namely painful diabetic neuropathy (PDN), an unmet medical need with significant impact on quality of life. Gabapentin is widely used for PDN, albeit with frequent dose-limiting effects. Trazodone, an antidepressant with multi-modal action, has shown promising results when given at low doses as an add-on to gabapentin.

Background: Burnout is a maladaptive response to chronic stress, particularly prevalent among clinicians. Anesthesiologists are at risk of burnout, but the role of maladaptive traits in their vulnerability to burnout remains understudied.

Methods: A secondary analysis was performed on data from the Italian Association of Hospital Anesthesiologists, Pain Medicine Specialists, Critical Care, and Emergency (AAROI-EMAC) physicians.

Article Synopsis
  • The retina is being studied as a promising, noninvasive way to diagnose and track Alzheimer's disease (AD) because it shows similar pathological features to those found in the brain, like amyloid and tau protein abnormalities.
  • Research has found that structural and functional issues in the retina, including reduced blood flow and inflammation, correlate with the severity of AD symptoms in patients.
  • Advanced imaging technologies are now capable of detecting AD-related changes in the retina, which could help in early diagnosis and monitoring of the disease, but more studies are needed with larger, diverse groups to confirm these findings and improve screening methods.

Background: Degeneration of cholinergic basal forebrain (BF) neurons characterizes Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, what role the BF plays in the dynamics of AD pathophysiology has not been investigated precisely.

Objective: To investigate the baseline and longitudinal roles of BF along with core neuropathologies in AD.
