[Oxygenation of the frontal cerebral cortex in monkeys during a two-week space flight].

In monkeys (Macaca mulatta) during a two-week space flight and in a ground-based control experiment, with semi-closed platinum electrodes, partial oxygen pressure (pO2) was registered in the frontal cerebral cortex. It was shown that during the flight there is a marked increase of pO2 in the frontal cortex, reaching maximal values on days 5-8 (up to 203%) with a subsequent tendency to normalization by day 11. In the control experiment pO2 values in the cortical zone studied did not exceed the baseline level throughout the period of registration.

[Increase in the radiation resistance of mice using Ivastimul].

A study was made of the effect of Ivastimul (IS), an aqueous extract from unicellular Chlorella algae, on the radioresistance and some haemopoiesis parameters of mice exposed to 60Co-gamma-radiation. With median and absolutely lethal radiation doses, IS was shown to produce a pronounced protective effect displayed by the increased survival rate. With sublethal doses, IS elevated the postirradiation formation of endogenous colonies and restoration of bone marrow and spleen cellularity and spleen mass.

[Hemopoietic status of rats exposed to weightlessness].

This paper summarizes experimental data on the erythropoiesis of rats flown on Cosmos biosatellites for 18-22 days. The histogenesis of the hemopoietic tissue is investigated at the level of stem cells, dividing-maturing pool and mature blood cells (erythrocytes). In weightlessness inhibition of the erythropoiesis in various skeletal sites occurs.
