Altered retinal vasculature in childhood cancer survivors: Data from the German CVSS-study.

Aims: Childhood cancer is a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases in later life. Retinal examination allows to non-invasively observe the vasculature of an end-organ. We observe alterations in long-term childhood cancer survivors (CCS).

The fruit fly as a screening model for antiseizure medications.

Objective: Resistance to antiseizure medications (ASMs) is a major challenge in the treatment of patients with epilepsy. Despite numerous newly marketed ASMs, the proportion of drug-resistant people with epilepsy has not significantly decreased over the years. Therefore, novel and innovative seizure models for preclinical drug screening are highly desirable.

Suppression of hyperuniformity in hydrodynamic scalar active field theories.

The coarsening dynamics at late times in phase-separating systems lead to universally hyperuniform patterns. This is well known for scalar field theories, such as the Cahn-Hilliard equation, but has also been shown for dry scalar active field theories. We demonstrate the role of hydrodynamic interactions in influencing hyperuniformity in a wet active system described by active model H.

Elevation of Granulocyte Colony Stimulating Factor in Human AMD Donor RPE-Choroid.

Purpose: Choroidal inflammation, complement deposition, and accumulation of C-reactive protein (CRP) are involved in age-related macular degeneration (AMD) pathology. The pro-inflammatory signals that regulate immune cell recruitment in the choroid of patients with AMD remain to be determined. We performed cytokine profiling of human AMD and age-matched control donor tissue to identify inflammatory molecules upregulated in AMD tissue.

Diastolic Dysfunction and the Risk of Stroke and Major Bleeding.

Background: Left ventricular diastolic dysfunction (DD) is associated with adverse cardiovascular outcomes including atrial fibrillation. Whether DD is independently associated with incident stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA) and with bleeding events is not known. We performed this observational cohort analysis to examine the impact of DD on the risk of stroke/TIA and major bleeding.
