Little attention was given to heparanase 2 (Hpa2) over the last two decades, possibly because it lacks a heparan sulfate (HS)-degrading activity typical of heparanase. Emerging results suggest, nonetheless, that Hpa2 plays a role in human pathologies, including cancer progression where it functions as a tumor suppressor. Here, we examined the role of Hpa2 in cervical carcinoma.

Article Synopsis
  • Psoriasis is an ongoing skin condition driven by inflammation and immune responses, with recent advances in targeted therapies showing success for moderate-to-severe cases.
  • A study evaluated TNFα inhibitors (etanercept, adalimumab, infliximab) over 16 weeks in psoriasis patients, finding a 63% positive treatment response but varying effectiveness among the drugs.
  • Baseline levels of IL20 showed potential as a predictor of treatment success, while decreases in certain cytokines were noted in patients who responded positively to the therapy, highlighting differing immune responses among individuals.

Article Synopsis
  • Current anti-cancer immunotherapies, while successful, only work for a small group of patients, highlighting the need for better biomarkers to predict treatment responses.
  • Researchers discovered that interferon-stimulated, Ly6E neutrophils can serve as a predictive biomarker for anti-PD1 therapy in mice, showing how they can enhance tumor response by activating T cells.
  • The study further confirmed that Ly6E neutrophils are an effective predictor of immunotherapy responses in humans with lung cancer and melanoma, achieving high accuracy in patient cohorts and public data analysis.
