Rare adverse effects of India ink injection spillage during colonoscopy have been reported. We present a case report in which prior colonoscopic India ink tattooing was found to mimic intraperitoneal endometriosis in a 48 year-old woman undergoing laparoscopic sterilization. Multiple black lesions suspicious for endometriosis involving the anterior and posterior cul-de-sac, left ovary, and omentum were found.

The aim of our research was a studying of morphological and molecular aspects of the endometrial receptivity disorders at chronic endometritis. The basic studied group included cases of chronic endometritis (CE) with unknown etiology (30 patients) and with CE under autoimmune thyroiditis (26 patients with presence of antithyroid antibodies--ATA).

Matrix metalloproteinases -2 and -9, the most prevalent representatives of this family, are expressed in the endometrium. Chronic endometritis concomitant with sterility and spontaneous abortions is associated with decreased content of matrix metalloproteinases in the endometrium.

The number of monocytes, macrophages (CD14+), and large granular lymphocytes (CD56+) in the endometrium increased in chronic endometritis. These changes are an unfavorable prognositic signs for the onset of pregnancy. Combination therapy improved the phenotypic composition of endometrial cells.

The concentrations of cytokines (tumor necrosis factor-alpha and interleukin-10) in cervical scrapes and the percentage of CD4(+)lymphocytes producing interferon-gamma and interleukin-4 in the peripheral blood were measured in women of reproductive age with typical form of genital herpes. The results suggest that genital herpes is a chronic inflammatory process characterized by high levels of proinflammatory cytokines with predominance of T-helper type 1 over T-helper type 2 cytokines.
