The severity of stress was evaluated in 45 female residents of the town of Chapaevsk (3 groups, 14-15 females each, with different levels of exposure to dioxins) using 5 standard psychological questionnaires. The results of testing were correlated to plasma dioxin concentrations and levels of chromosome aberrations in peripheral blood lymphocytes of the same donors. The results indicate that the groups differed by the degree of stress, the highest level being observed in women occupationally exposed to dioxins.

The paper presents the monitoring results of the genetic and mental status of workers from 2 plants of Yaroslavl. The groups of the examinees were formed in terms of unhealthy working conditions and residence in clean or polluted areas of the city. The individuals working under harmful and living under unfavourable environmental conditions were found to be more commonly acute or chronically stressed or fatigable than the control workers.

The primate striatum has a compartmental organization reflected both in the topography of its afferent projections and in the segregation of its morphologically similar but neurochemically distinct efferent neurons. Discretely projecting mesostriatal neurons release dopamine (DA) which modulates the responses of striatal neurons to other afferent inputs. Multiple DA receptor (DAR) subtypes have been cloned and characterized and mapping their cellular expression is crucial for understanding the influence of DA on striatal function.
