The patterns of synaptic connectivity and physiological properties of diverse neuron types are shaped by distinct gene sets. Our study demonstrates that, in the mouse forebrain, the transcriptional profiles of inhibitory GABAergic interneurons are regulated by Nr4a1, an orphan nuclear receptor whose expression is transiently induced by sensory experiences and is required for normal learning. Nr4a1 exerts contrasting effects on the local axonal wiring of parvalbumin- and somatostatin-positive interneurons, which innervate different subcellular domains of their postsynaptic partners.

Memory engrams are formed through experience-dependent remodeling of neural circuits, but their detailed architectures have remained unresolved. Using 3D electron microscopy, we performed nanoscale reconstructions of the hippocampal CA3-CA1 pathway following chemogenetic labeling of cellular ensembles with a remote history of correlated excitation during associative learning. Projection neurons involved in memory acquisition expanded their connectomes via multi-synaptic boutons without altering the numbers and spatial arrangements of individual axonal terminals and dendritic spines.

Three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic simulations are able to model the generation of disk-shaped plasma, driven by laser ablation from a current-carrying rod in a pulsed-power machine producing azimuthal magnetic fields of 2-3 MG. The plasma at such extreme conditions is unique in that the parameter space for the plasma β and Hall parameter χ transition from below unity to greater than unity at different stages of the plasma generation. In simulations, the formation of the plasma disk in the azimuthal direction is driven by heat flux from the laser spot and depends on the set of transport coefficients used in simulations.

The seasonal feeding patterns of the cold-adapted fish, , are poorly studied in high-latitude lakes but could provide insight for predicting the effects of global warming. We examined vendace's diet composition, traced the carbon and nitrogen isotope ratios from producers to consumers in the food web, and estimated vendace's trophic position in a subarctic lake (the White Sea basin). Results showed the vendace to be a typical euryphagous fish, but clear seasonal differences were found in the relative importance of plankton and benthos in the diet.

Research and development of high-performance catalysts is a key technology to realize hydrogen energy storage and transportation based on liquid organic hydrogen carriers. Co/beta was prepared using beta zeolite as a carrier via an electrostatic adsorption (ESA)-chemical reduction method, and it was used as the template and reducing agent to prepare bimetallic catalysts via an ultrasonic assisted galvanic replacement process (UGR). The fabricated PdCo/beta were characterized by TEM, XPS, FT-IR, XRD, H-TPR, and H-TPD.
