Purpose: Although several techniques have been described for bent intramedullary nail removal, there is no universally accepted strategy. We hypothesized that a device based on the action principle of a three-point bend fixture could facilitate extraction of bent intramedullary nails; this paper describes its design and experimental testing.

Methods: Five large synthetic left femurs and five steel intramedullary nails were used.

Mitochondrial biogenesis requires the expression of genes encoded by both the nuclear and mitochondrial genomes. However, aside from a handful transcription factors regulating specific subsets of mitochondrial genes, the overall architecture of the transcriptional control of mitochondrial biogenesis remains to be elucidated. The mechanisms coordinating these two genomes are largely unknown.

Trichomoniasis, a globally prevalent sexually transmitted infection caused by Trichomonas vaginalis, affects approximately 278 million people each year. It presents a challenge due to resistance to the current treatment, Metronidazole (MTZ), which is also associated with side effects. Cannabis sativa, with more than 100 phytocannabinoids and numerous studies for therapeutic applications, including parasitic infections, has undergone a significant shift in acceptance worldwide, highlighted by legalizations and substantial revenue projections.

This study addresses a critical gap in the existing literature on carbon dioxide and ionic liquid (IL) mixtures, where fragmented and incomplete data, particularly for flow properties, hinder practical applications. Therefore, this work aimed to establish a robust and efficient method for predicting the density of the CO-IL mixtures across diverse operating conditions and IL families using novel validation techniques. Both linear and symbolic regression models provided relevant insights but failed to accurately capture the IL-CO interactions in a mixture that determine the molar volume of CO at infinite dilution when solubilized by a given IL.

Extremophile organisms have been largely studied in Astrobiology. Among them, two antarctic plants emerge as good candidates to become colonizers of other celestial bodies, such as Mars and the Moon. The present research aimed to evaluate survival and growing capacity of Sanionia uncinata and Colobanthus quitensis on Martian (MGS-1) and Lunar (LMS-1) regolith simulants, under terrestrial conditions.
