Safety and efficiency of transplantation of allogenic multipotent stromal cells in surgical treatment of dilatated cardiomyopathy.

Clinical study of intracoronary transplantation of allogenic multipotent bone marrow stromal cells was carried out in patients with severe chronic cardiac failure against the background of dilatated cardiomyopathy. The results indicate that intracoronary injection of allogenic multipotent stromal precursors is a safe procedure. No complications and side effects directly or indirectly related to cell transplantation were recorded during the immediate and delayed postoperative periods.

Skeletal muscle. New techniques for treating heart failure.

Presently, only cardiomyoplasty has been used clinically. This is not surprising because it is a relatively safe operation to perform, avoids problems of thrombosis, and is unlikely to do harm. Evidence is beginning to emerge that clinical improvement may be due to enhanced cardiac output and not simply to limiting ventricular distension or to a placebo effect.

Canine latissimus dorsi cardio-double myoplasty: acute feasibility study.

Cardio-double myoplasty was performed in eight mongrel dogs. Both latissimus dorsi muscles were dissected from the chest wall and wrapped around the heart. They were then stimulated using an R wave synchronous stimulator.

Skeletal muscle ventricles in circulation as aortic diastolic counterpulsators: twelve-month update.

In previous studies, we have shown that canine skeletal muscle ventricles (SMVs) of various designs could develop stroke work intermediate between that of the canine left and right ventricle. We have subsequently reported that SMVs could be used as aortic diastolic counterpulsators. In some animals the SMVs pumped blood effectively for several weeks.
