Background: The management of chronic pelvic pain in women with endometriosis is complex and includes the long-term use of opioids. Patients not fully responsive to drugs or ineligible for surgical treatments need efficient alternatives to improve their quality of life and avoid long-term sequelae.

Objective: This randomized controlled trial aimed to assess the effects of repeated at-home administrations of a 20-minute virtual reality (VR) solution (Endocare) compared with a sham condition on pain in women experiencing pelvic pain due to endometriosis.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates social cognition impairments in individuals with bipolar disorder (BD) and schizophrenia (SCH), particularly focusing on emotion recognition and Theory of Mind (ToM) abilities, and examines sex differences in performance.
  • Results show both patient groups had significant deficits compared to healthy subjects but performed similarly to each other, with age and IQ affecting their outcomes.
  • Healthy women outperformed men in certain tasks, but no sex differences were observed among patients, indicating that the social cognition issues in BD and SCH may be similar and nuanced.

Bovine herpesvirus type 1 (BoHV-1) is the causative agent for infectious bovine rhinotracheitis and infectious pustular vulvovaginitis in cows or balanoposthitis in bulls. In this study, individual and bulk tank milk (BTM) samples from 5 Catalan dairy farms with different control strategies against BoHV-1 were analysed during the course of a year for milk quality parameters and glycoprotein E gE) antibodies. Detection of gE antibodies was carried out with ELISA techniques.

Use of DNA-based methods, such as real-time PCR, has increased the sensitivity and shortened the time for bacterial identification, compared with traditional bacteriology; however, results should be interpreted carefully because a positive PCR result does not necessarily mean that an infection exists. One hundred eight lactating dairy ewes (56 Manchega and 52 Lacaune) and 24 Murciano-Granadina dairy goats were used for identifying the main bacteria causing intramammary infections (IMI) using traditional bacterial culturing and real-time PCR and their effects on milk performance. Udder-half milk samples were taken for bacterial culturing and somatic cell count (SCC) 3 times throughout lactation.
