Proteolysis of the protruding portions of the inserted channels changed slightly its conductivity and selectivity. Latrotoxin antibodies added to either side of the membrane decreased channel conductivity.

It is shown that approximately 9 A Ca-selective ion channels were induced in bilayer lipid membrane (BLM) from phosphatidylserine by nonpurified spider venom (Latrodectus tredicimguttatus) and by alpha-latrotoxin obtained from it. It is established that channels greatly different in conductivity have the same diameter and nearly the same charge constitution, that evidences for their claster organization. The purification process as well as freezing-thawing and long time keeping influence the channel conductivity without changing its diameter and selectivity.

Current-voltage characteristics are obtained for a channel formed by alpha-latrotoxin when inserting into a bilayer lipid membrane separating solutions of different ionic composition. They are used for determining parameters of a two-barrier model of this channel energy profile. It is shown that selectivity of these channels is based on the same principles that in the calcium channels of biological membranes and is mainly determined by the ion binding inside the channel.

The selectivity of these channels was determined. It was found that their living time in open state depended on the membrane potential.
