Background: Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are a group of disorders of the heart and blood vessels. Yoga is a low-cost, easily accessible lifestyle modification program that holds as an approach to decreasing cardiometabolic risk factors and increasing exercise self-efficacy among high-risk subjects. This study aimed to assess the impact of the yogic lifestyle (including diet) on cardiovascular risk scores by using the Framingham (FRS), QRISK3 score, and World Health Organization (WHO) CVD risk prediction charts at baseline, three months, and six months.

As an emerging toxic recreational drug, kratom use has been associated with a range of adverse effects, but reports of structural changes in the central nervous system are rare. We report a case of a young man in his 20s with a history of anxiety and depression who presented with an altered mental status and anterograde and retrograde amnesia following kratom use. His labs showed elevated alanine aminotransferase and ammonia levels, and his MRI revealed bilateral hippocampal T2 hyperintensity signal changes.

Maternal Embryonic Leucine Zipper Kinase (MELK), a pivotal signaling protein, plays a crucial role in various physiological processes such as cell growth, survival, and differentiation. There is currently a growing interest in MELK as a promising therapeutic target for multiple cancers, including triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). Exploring MELK as a target offers a prospective strategy to impede cancer progression and enhance the efficacy of conventional anticancer therapies.

Background: In South Africa, there is no centralized HIV surveillance system where key populations (KPs) data, including gay men and other men who have sex with men, female sex workers, transgender persons, people who use drugs, and incarcerated persons, are stored in South Africa despite being on higher risk of HIV acquisition and transmission than the general population. Data on KPs are being collected on a smaller scale by numerous stakeholders and managed in silos. There exists an opportunity to harness a variety of data, such as empirical, contextual, observational, and programmatic data, for evaluating the potential impact of HIV responses among KPs in South Africa.

Seronegative autoimmune encephalitis is an infrequent entity in older patients, and its presentation as rapidly progressive parkinsonism is rarely seen in cases of autoimmune encephalitis. We present a case report of an older patient who presented with worsening Parkinson's-like symptoms over a month. We highlight the importance of considering autoimmune encephalitis as a potential cause of rapidly progressive parkinsonism and the importance of radiological findings when the entire autoimmune panel is negative in such patients.
