To date, there has been great progress in understanding the genetic basis of ischemic stroke (IS); however, several aspects of the condition remain underexplored, including the influence of genetic factors on post-stroke outcomes and the identification of causative loci. We proposed that an analysis of the results obtained from animal models of brain ischemia could be helpful. To this end, we developed a bioinformatic approach for exploring single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in human orthologs of rat genes expressed differentially after induced brain ischemia.

The danger of the emergence of new viral diseases and their rapid spread demands apparatuses for continuous rapid monitoring in real time. This requires the creation of new bioanalytical methods that overcome the shortcomings of existing ones and are applicable for point-of-care diagnostics. For this purpose, a variety of biosensors have been developed and tested in proof-of-concept studies, but none of them have been introduced for commercial use so far.

Iminopyridine modified by TEMPO nitroxide was utilized for the synthesis of an octahedral bis(o-semiquinonato)cobalt complex. Variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements detect a valence tautomeric transformation in the temperature range 200-300 K. A reproducible hysteresis loop of about 40 K width is observed on the magnetic moment temperature dependence in the transition region.

Two redox-isomeric (valence tautomeric) complexes (2,2'-bpy)Co(3,6-DBSQ)2 (1) and (1,10-phen)Co(3,6-DBSQ)2 (2) (where 2,2'-bpy = 2,2'-dipyridine; 1,10-phen = 1,10-phenanthroline; 3,6-DBSQ = 3,6-di-tert-butyl-benzosemiquinone-1,2) reveal phase transitions that accompany redox-isomeric interconversions of semiquinone-catecholato isomer into a bis-(semiquinonato) one. Phase transitions differ one from another by thermodynamic parameters (transition temperature and interval, enthalpy, and entropy). Complexes 1 and 2 have the same crystal system and space group, and they form solid solutions with any molar ratio.

The article deals with 5-year (1986-1992) experience in the diagnosis and treatment of duodenal atresia in 26 infants. Timely diagnosis of this developmental anomaly, the variants of operative treatment, and the principles of postoperative management are discussed. The necessity of antenatal ultrasonic examination and the high diagnostic value of radiological and endoscopic methods of diagnosis are emphasized.
