Quasi-3D plasmonic nanostructures are in high demand for their ability to manipulate and enhance light-matter interactions at subwavelength scales, making them promising building blocks for diverse nanophotonic devices. Despite their potential, the integration of these nanostructures with optical sensors and imaging systems on a large scale poses challenges. Here, a robust technique for the rapid, scalable, and seamless replication of quasi-3D plasmonic nanostructures is presented straight from their production wafers using a microbubble process.

Scaffolds for the filling and regeneration of osteochondral defects are a current challenge in the biomaterials field, and solutions with greater functionality are still being sought. The novel approach of this work was to obtain scaffolds with biologically active additives possessing microstructural, permeability, and mechanical properties, mimicking the complexity of natural cartilage. Four types of scaffolds with a gelatin/alginate matrix modified with hydroxyapatite were obtained, and the relationship between the modifiers and substrate properties was evaluated.

With the sustained prevalence and introduction of new emerging drugs throughout the world there is a need for continued development and maintenance of platforms that enable rapid identification and characterization of unknown compounds. To complement existing efforts, a collaborative platform between the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and practicing forensic agencies is being deployed which enables laboratories to leverage techniques and expertise that may not exist at their facilities. Using this approach, unknown compounds are identified and characterized using a suite of analytical tools to obtain (1) a rapid preliminary identification followed by (2) a more complete characterization and confirmation of the preliminary identification.

This paper presents an analysis of the effect of the geometry of the end-coil transition zone on the material stress state of a machined compression spring with a rectangular wire cross-section. The literature relationships for determining the stresses in rectangular wire compression springs neglect the effects associated with the geometry of this zone. A series of non-linear numerical analyses were carried out for models of machined compression springs with a wide range of variation in geometrical parameters.
