New hybrids were synthesised by linking carboranes and siloles, both of which are known as aggregation-induced emission active units. Although most of the newly synthesised systems do not display notable quantum yield either in solution or in the aggregated state, they emit strongly in the solid-state, and a quantum yield of up to 100 % can be achieved. The tailorable quantum yield can be attributed to the packing of the molecules in the crystal lattice ruled by the carborane and phenyl moieties according to the SC-XRD data.

Mixing weak acids and bases can produce highly complicated binary mixtures, called pseudo-protic ionic liquids, in which a complex network of effects determines the physicochemical properties that are currently impossible to predict. In this joint computational-experimental study, we investigated 1-methylimidazole-acetic acid mixtures through the whole concentration range. Effects of the varying ionization and excess of either components on the properties, such as density, diffusion coefficients, and overall hydrogen bonding structure were uncovered.

The dynamic balance of transcriptional and translational regulation together with degron-controlled proteolysis shapes the ever-changing cellular proteome. While a large variety of degradation signals has been characterized, our knowledge of -acting protein motifs that can in vivo stabilize otherwise short-lived proteins is very limited. We have identified and characterized a conserved 13-mer protein segment derived from the p54/Rpn10 ubiquitin receptor subunit of the 26S proteasome, which fulfills all the characteristics of a protein stabilization motif (STABILON).

The purpose of this study was to explore the association of the MCT1 gene Glu490Asp polymorphism (rs1049434) with athletic status and performance of endurance athletes. A total of 1,208 Brazilians (318 endurance athletes and 890 non-athletes) and 867 Europeans (315 endurance athletes and 552 non-athletes) were evaluated in a case-control approach. Brazilian participants were classified based on self-declared ethnicity to test whether the polymorphism was different between Caucasians and Afro-descendants.
