Article Synopsis
  • Monoclonal gammopathy of renal significance (MGRS) is characterized by kidney issues linked to abnormal immunoglobulin production, found in patients without specific treatment criteria for hematological diseases.
  • The three cases discussed include a patient with chronic lymphocytic leukemia and monoclonal membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis, a second patient with IgM MGUS presenting renal thrombotic microangiopathy, and a third with immunotactoid glomerulonephritis likely due to small B-cell lymphoma.
  • Each case highlights unique renal complications tied to the presence of monoclonal proteins and emphasizes the challenges in diagnosis and management of MGRS in different

To consider the growing health issues caused by antibiotic resistance from a "one health" perspective, the contribution of meat production needs to be addressed. While antibiotic resistance is naturally present in microbial communities, the treatment of farm animals with antibiotics causes an increase in antibiotic resistance genes (ARG) in the gut microbiome. Pigs are among the most prevalent animals in agriculture; therefore, reducing the prevalence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in the pig gut microbiome could reduce the spread of antibiotic resistance.

Coloration is often used in biological studies, for example when studying social signaling or antipredator defense. Yet, few detailed and standardized methods are available to measure coloration using digital photography. Here we provide a step-by-step guide to help researchers quantify coloration from digital images.

It is unclear if AGEs are involved in the bone fragility of type 1 diabetes (T1D). We evaluated whether skin AGEs by skin autofluorescence and serum AGEs (pentosidine, carboxymethyl-lysine [CML]) are independently associated with BMD by DXA (lumbar spine, hip, distal radius), trabecular bone score (TBS), serum bone turnover markers (BTMs: CTX; P1NP; osteocalcin), and sclerostin in participants with and without T1D. Linear regression models were used, with interaction terms to test effect modification by T1D status.
