Excessive consumption of saturated fatty acids creates a debilitating cellular environment that hinders the normal function and survival of osteoblasts, contributing to bone metabolic disorders such as osteoporosis. The FDA-approved polypeptide PTH 1-34 is a well-established therapy for post-menopausal osteoporosis, yet its protective effects in a palmitic acid (PA)-rich hyperlipidemic environment are not well understood. This study investigates the impact of PTH 1-34 on PA-induced cellular responses in osteoblasts.

Background And Objective: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common condition, featured by repetitive upper airway collapse during sleep manifested with poor quality of life and co-morbidities. Although continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is the recommended therapy, lack of patient compliance and persistent symptoms often preclude its success. The present study evaluates the effect of acetazolamide in combination with CPAP, and compares this treatment strategy to single therapy using CPAP in moderate to severe OSA.

Background Inpatient bowel preparation is often suboptimal. Few interventions have been effective at improving its success rate. We determined the clinical features associated with suboptimal inpatient bowel preparation and analyzed the ability of an easily implementable set of instructions inserted into the electronic health record to improve the success of bowel preparation.

Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) is the leading causative agent of viral encephalitis in India and contributes to a significant disease burden in South Asian countries. However, no antiviral treatment is available against JEV-induced encephalitis, highlighting the urgent need for novel therapeutic approaches. Repurposing or repositioning drugs was found to be more economical and practical in the current drug development scenario.

Studies on Plasmodium falciparum transmission require blood-feeding infectious gametocytes to mosquitoes using standard membrane-feeding assays (SMFAs). SMFAs are routinely performed using electric heating coils or glass membrane feeders connected to a circulatory water bath using tubing and clamps. Each of these approaches is expensive and requires a complex setup, hence restricting the number of assays that can be performed simultaneously.
