A comparative study on the effectiveness of pollutants control measures adopted in the steel industry to reduce workplace and environmental exposure: a case study.

Our understanding of the environmental and occupational health implications of pollutants emitted in steel production is still lacking, despite the considerable amount of research devoted to this topic. Given the significance of steel recycling and the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, many steel factories are adopting electric arc furnace (EAF) technology. The use of a technological system designed for the capture of pollutants emitted through EAF steel production is highly ecological because of its utilization of iron scrap and low investment cost.

Brain changes in depression.

The present review addresses major depressive disorder (MDD) and the implications of antidepressant treatment in the field of brain neuroplasticity, an effect initially considered adjacent but currently passed as central in the process of remission of MDD. Both in experimental animal studies and in human studies in subjects with mood disorders, neuroplasticity is considered the fundamental mechanism of neural defense against stress. Stress is the mediator between neurofunctional, neuroendocrine, neurobiological and neuroimmune disorders and depressive pathology of various intensities.

THYROID HORMONES AS A THIRD LINE OF AUGMENTATION MEDICATION IN TREATMENT-RESISTANT DEPRESSION.

Introduction: Clinical or subclinical hypothyroidism dictates the severity of depressive episodes and more frequently overlaps psychotic phenomenology. There are also major depressive episodes resistant to treatment in patients with euthyroidism, in which supplementation of antidepressant medication with thyroid hormones is beneficial.

Material: Systematization of meta-analyses from perspectives: hypothyroidism and depression, autoimmune and depression pathology, gestational and puerperal pathology in association with hormonal and dispositional changes, presentation of therapeutic schemes.

Ties between schizophrenia (SCZ) and genetics are undeniably significant issue prone to be discussed in the nowadays psychology. Recent research on this domain focuses more on specific genes and heredity (specifically monozygotic pairs of twins) for diagnosing SCZ, than on environmental influences. SCZ is considered a multifactorial disease, thought to convert from a merger of risk and biological genes and environmental factors that could alter and reshape the trajectory of brain development.

Hypomagnesemia in adults of northern Serbia: prevalence, nutritional risk factors, and associated comorbidities.

Introduction: Magnesium (Mg) deficiency is associated with numerous non-communicable diseases. The aim of the study was to estimate the prevalence of hypomagnesemia in the general adult population of Northern Serbia (NS), and to determine the level of Mg in drinking water.

Methods: This is a cross-sectional study with 5,122 adults from the general population.
