Introduction And Objectives: The Systematic Coronary Risk Evaluation (SCORE) is the most extended index in Europe for overall cardiovascular risk assessment. This study aims to validate the calculated risk with the observed 10-year cardiovascular mortality in a population cohort aged 40 to 75 years.

Methods: In 2014 the SCORE and the SCORE OP (for older people) were calculated in a population aged 40 to 64 years-old and 65 to 75 years-old, respectively.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines the prevalence of dyslipidemia (abnormal cholesterol levels) in Castilla y León, Spain, using data from 4,013 individuals aged 15 and older.
  • Findings indicate that cholesterol levels increase with age and that men exhibit higher levels of LDL-c and triglycerides compared to women, especially under 60, while women consistently have higher HDL-c levels.
  • The research highlights a significant underdiagnosis of high cholesterol, with only about half of those with high levels diagnosed and even fewer treated, suggesting a high prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors in the population.

A simplified amplified-fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) method was developed and applied to genotype 52 Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates. This method can be carried out using only one restriction enzyme (XhoI), one double strand adapter, and one PCR primer. The amounts of DNA and DNA polymerase, and the concentrations of primer and Mg(2+) in the PCR step were optimized using the Basic Sequential Simplex method.
