Health care-related infections are frequent and among them surgical site infection (SSI) are the most frequent in hospitals. The objective was to evaluate the adequacy of antibiotic prophylaxis in patients undergoing neck surgery and its relationship with the incidence of surgical site infection (SSI). Background: Surgical wound infection is one of the leading causes of healthcare-associated infections. One of the most common measures for its reduction is the pre-surgical preparation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the adequacy to the pre-surgical protocol in patients undergoing neck surgery and the relationship with the incidence of surgical wound infection.

Compliance with antibiotic prophylaxis in spinal fusion surgery and surgical wound infection.

Background: Surgical wound infection is an important complication of spinal surgery. Antibiotic prophylaxis has served to decrease its rates significantly, with the ensuing reduction in hospital stay, costs, and morbidity and mortality. To date, a large assessment of the degree of compliance with antibiotic prophylaxis in spinal fusion surgery has not been undertaken in Spain with large prospective studies.

[Nasal hamartoma].

Nasal hamartoma is a rare lesion characterized by a mix of several tissue types. Its location in the nasal septum is even more rare. We report the case of a 35-year-old woman presenting hamartoma in the posterosuperior part of the right nasal cavity.
