Aim: We reviewed the clinical features of a sample of pediatric acquired demyelinating syndromes with the purpose of determining the appropriate protocol for follow-up after the first episode.

Methods: A multicenter retrospective observational study was conducted on a cohort of 40 children diagnosed with a first episode of acquired demyelinating syndrome over the period 2012-2021. Patients were evaluated with clinical and neuroradiologic assessment after 3, 6, and 12 months, with a median follow-up of 4.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates meningitis-retention syndrome (MRS), focusing on its clinical and radiological features, treatment options, and urinary outcomes to better understand the syndrome and the role of corticosteroids.
  • A new case of MRS was presented alongside a review of 28 previous cases, revealing that MRS typically occurs with aseptic meningitis and urinary retention, with a mean interval of about 6.4 days between symptoms.
  • Findings suggest MRS is self-limited, often without pathological findings on neurophysiological studies, and corticosteroids, antibiotics, and antivirals have not shown effectiveness in altering the syndrome's course.

Primary infection by varicella zoster virus (VZV) can result in vasculopathy with neurological manifestations, such as hemiparesis, at times accompanied by hemichorea. Isolated hemichorea, however, had not been reported.

Child bilateral striatal necrosis (BSN) is a rare and etiologically heterogeneous condition. An association with group A streptococcus (GAS) infection was previously reported in two cases of BSN in infancy and early childhood. We here report on a 7-year-old boy who developed chorea and dystonia 20 days after symptomatic recovery from Sydenham's chorea.
