: The ability of bacteria to form biofilms makes them more tolerant to traditional antibiotics. Given the lack of new antibiotic development, drug repurposing offers a strategy for discovering new treatments. Auranofin (AF), a gold-based compound indicated for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, shows promising antibacterial activity.

Attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy is a spectrum-based technique that quantifies the absorption of infrared light by molecules present in the microbial cell. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the performance of the ATR-FTIR spectroscopic technique via I-dOne software (Version 2.0) compared with the MALDI-TOF MS in identifying spp.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) has high mortality and rising incidence rates. Recent data indicate that the gut microbiome and associated metabolites may play a role in the development of PDAC. To complement and inform observational studies, we investigated associations of genetically predicted abundances of individual gut bacteria and genetically predicted circulating concentrations of microbiome-associated metabolites with PDAC using Mendelian randomisation (MR).

A Laser-Induced Graphene-based (LIG) electrode covalently functionalized with an aptamer (P12-55) was used to develop an aptasensor detecting Escherichia coli in urine samples. Recent strides in material science have spotlighted LIG for exceptional attributes like robust mechanical resistance, superior conductivity, extensive surface area, and facile synthesis/patterning on various polymeric substrates. Variations in the aptasensor charge transfer resistance upon interaction with bacterial cells were evaluated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.
