Evaluation of taste and smell disorders in pediatric COVID-19 Cases.

Objective: Pediatric coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases have a high risk of contagiousness, as they usually progress with asymptomatic or mild respiratory symptoms. Disorder in taste and/or smell has rarely been reported in pediatric cases. In our study, early diagnosis and isolation measures were emphasized by evaluating the clinical, laboratory, and radiological imaging findings of pediatric COVID-19 cases presenting with symptoms of taste and/or smell disorder.

Risk Factors for Major Hemorrhage Following Percutaneous Image-Guided Renal Biopsy: What is the "core" of the Problem? A Retrospective Case-control Study.

Objectives: Percutaneous renal biopsy (PRB) plays a critical role in the work-up of renal parenchymal disease. Although it is considered a low-risk procedure, additional interventions may be required in about 7% of the cases following biopsy. The purpose of this study was to identify risk factors for major hemorrhage by microscopic analysis of the cores obtained following PRB, with an intent to enhance the sensitivity and specificity of the risk stratification process, especially in patients undergoing this procedure in an outpatient setting.

Deletion of Nampt in Projection Neurons of Adult Mice Leads to Motor Dysfunction, Neurodegeneration, and Death.

Intracellular nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase (iNAMPT) is the rate-limiting enzyme of the mammalian NAD biosynthesis salvage pathway. Using inducible and conditional knockout (cKO) mice, we show that Nampt gene deletion in adult projection neurons leads to a progressive loss of body weight, hypothermia, motor neuron (MN) degeneration, motor function deficits, paralysis, and death. Nampt deletion causes mitochondrial dysfunction, muscle fiber type conversion, and atrophy, as well as defective synaptic function at neuromuscular junctions (NMJs).

Electrical burn is still a major risk factor for amputations.

Many difficult decisions are faced in the early management of severely burned patient. The decision to amputate an extremity or extremities may be very difficult but reduce morbidity and enhance survival of the patient. In a total of 1144 patients from January 2000 and June 2011, there were 44 patients (3.
