Comprehensive genomic profiling (CGP) is increasingly used as a clinical laboratory test and being applied to cancer treatment; however, standardization and external quality assessments (EQA) have not been fully developed. This study performed cost-effective EQA and proficiency tests (PT) for CGP testing among multiple institutions those belong to the EQA working group of Japan Association for Clinical Laboratory Science (JACLS). This study revealed that preanalytical processes, such as derived nucleic acids (NA) extraction from formalin fixed paraffine embedded (FFPE) samples, are critical.

Introduction: To identify prognostic biomarkers that could predict how well patients will respond to lenvatinib/pembrolizumab (LEN/PEM). The utility of certain inflammatory biomarkers in endometrial liquid-based cytology (LBC) or peripheral blood samples, such as neutrophil counts, lymphocyte counts, and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) were explored.

Methods: The study included 25 patients with advanced or recurrent endometrial cancer who had received LEN/PEM between August 2018 and March 2024.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore the use of time-dependent diffusion MRI (dMRI) to differentiate between functioning and nonfunctioning pituitary adenomas (PAs).
  • It involved 54 participants, measuring the apparent diffusion coefficients (ADCs) of various types of PAs and finding that the cADC values were significantly higher in functioning PAs compared to nonfunctioning ones.
  • The results suggest that cADC is an effective diagnostic tool, particularly for distinguishing growth hormone-producing PAs from nonfunctioning PAs.

Background: Glioblastoma is an aggressive cancer that originates from abnormal cell growth in the brain and requires metabolic reprogramming to support tumor growth. Metabolic reprogramming involves the upregulation of various metabolic pathways. Although the activation of specific metabolic pathways in glioblastoma cell lines has been documented, the comprehensive profile of metabolic reprogramming and the role of each pathway in glioblastoma tissues in patients remain elusive.

Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNSTs) of the cervix are rare, particularly in patients with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). This report describes a cervical MPNST in an 18-year-old patient with no history of sexual activity, abnormal vaginal discharge, and prolonged menstruation. She had more than six café-au-lait spots on her body since birth and was diagnosed with NF1 at 2 years of age.
