Practical Implications of Policy Guidelines: A GIS Model of the Deployment of Community Health Volunteers in Madagascar.

Background: With increasing interest in strengthening community health programs nationally comes a need for operationalizing them in a realistic and achievable way. Limited information is available to help program managers establish appropriate parameters for their context. We examined aspects of program implementation related to deployment patterns of community health workers, called agents communautaires or ACs, in 2 districts of Madagascar.

[Management of ectopic pregnancy using methotrexate in Madagascar].

The purpose of this retrospective study was to evaluate the use of methotrexate for management of ectopic pregnancy in a series of 64 patients treated at the General Hospital Center in Soavinandriana, Madagascar from March 2005 to March 2008. The success rate was 80%.

A new secotrinervitane diterpene isolated from soldiers of the Madagascan termite species, Nasutitermes canaliculatus.

Reported herein is the X-ray crystallographic structure of a novel 10-oxygenated secotrinervitane diterpene, 3 alpha, 10 alpha-diacetoxy-7,16-secotrinervita-7,11,15(17)-triene (4), from soldiers of the endemic Madagascan termite Nasutitermes canaliculatus, which was compared with an energy-minimized structure obtained by computer molecular modeling. We also report 1H- and 13C-NMR and MS data for this new diterpene.
