Introduction: Tacrolimus-induced thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) causing acute kidney injury (AKI) without systemic features is a rare entity, particularly after non-renal solid organ transplantation.

Case Report: We describe the case of a patient with AKI after combined heart and lung transplantation. Renal biopsy revealed acute thrombotic microangiopathy which ultimately prompted initiation of eculizumab, a monoclonal antibody targeted against complement C5, with subsequent recovery in renal function.

Introduction: As the drug toxicity crisis continues to evolve globally, harms related to non-opioid substances, including stimulants, have risen in parallel. Our study aims were to describe trends in accidental stimulant toxicity deaths and to characterize demographic characteristics of decedents and the circumstances surrounding death.

Methods: We conducted a population-based repeated cross-sectional study, of all accidental stimulant toxicity deaths between January 1, 2018, and December 31, 2021, in Ontario, Canada.

Article Synopsis
  • Affective touch is essential for infant development, particularly for preterm infants who may lack necessary tactile stimulation, which can influence long-term outcomes.
  • Recent studies highlight the role of C-tactile fibers and reveal the positive effects of tactile interventions, such as skin-to-skin contact (SSC) and kangaroo care (KC), in neonatal care settings.
  • Implementing these tactile interventions can enhance caregiver-infant bonding, reduce stress, and support neurodevelopment, improving physiological regulation and emotional development in preterm infants in the NICU.

Purpose: To characterize the magnitude, timescale, and reliability of changes in functional and systemic outcome markers following moderate (MIR) and high (HIR) isoinertial resistance flywheel squat protocols (FSP).

Methods: Twenty-four resistance-trained males completed two exercise trials (ET1 & ET2) separated by 32 days. Functional and systemic markers were assessed at pre-exercise (PRE), immediately post-exercise (IP), and 24 (24H), 48 (48H), and 72 (72H) hours post-exercise.

Article Synopsis
  • Injectable extended-release buprenorphine (BUP-ER) was introduced in Canada in February 2020, offering a new option for opioid agonist therapy (OAT), and this study examines its uptake across five provinces until March 2022.
  • A total of 6,528 individuals received BUP-ER, mainly in British Columbia and Ontario, with usage rates highest in British Columbia (16.6 per 100,000 population) and lowest in Ontario (9.1 per 100,000).
  • The study found greater BUP-ER usage in rural areas compared to urban settings and noted significant variations in the number of prescribers per 100,000 population across provinces, indicating differing access to
