Protocol to study neuronal membrane proteasome function in mouse peripheral sensory neurons.

Neuronal membrane proteasomes (NMPs) are expressed on a subset of somatosensory dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons and influence mechanical and pain sensitivity. Here, we present a protocol for studying NMP function in mouse peripheral sensory neurons. We describe steps for procuring and culturing primary DRG neurons.

Public health economic modelling in evaluations of salt and/or alcohol policies: a systematic scoping review.

Background: Public health economic modelling is an approach capable of managing the intricacies involved in evaluating interventions without direct observational evidence. It is used to estimate potential long-term health benefits and cost outcomes. The aim of this review was to determine the scope of health economic models in the evaluation of salt and/or alcohol interventions globally, to provide an overview of the literature and the modelling methods and structures used.

Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Retention and Disengagement After Initiation on Antiretroviral Therapy in Low- and Middle-Income Countries After the Introduction of Universal Test and Treat Policies.

Background: We previously published a systematic review evaluating retention in care after antiretroviral therapy treatment initiation among adults in low- and middle-income countries. We estimated retention at 36 months to be at 74% for studies published from 2008-2013. This review evaluates retention after the implementation of Universal Test and Treat in 2015.

Global prioritization schemes vary in their impact on the placement of protected areas.

In response to global declines in biodiversity, many global conservation prioritization schemes were developed to guide effective protected area establishment. Protected area coverage has grown dramatically since the introduction of several high-profile biodiversity prioritization schemes, but the impact of such schemes on protected area establishment has not been evaluated. We used matching methods and a Before-After Control-Impact causal analysis to evaluate the impact of two key prioritization schemes-Biodiversity Hotspots and Last of the Wild-representing examples of the reactive and proactive ends of the prioritization spectrum.

Prevalence and progression of chronic kidney disease among adults undergoing creatinine testing in South African public healthcare facilities: a study leveraging data from South Africa's National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS).

Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) has emerged as a substantial global health challenge, with a marked rise in associated mortality. However, it often goes undetected until advanced stages, particularly in low-income and middle-income countries such as South Africa. We investigated the prevalence and progression of CKD in South Africa, utilising a subset of data from the National Health Laboratory Services Multi-morbidity Cohort.
