Partial protection against dextran sodium sulphate induced colitis in histamine-deficient, histidine decarboxylase knockout mice.

Objectives: Chemically induced mucosal inflammation in animal models is a suitable tool for studying factors in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease. The aim of this study was to determine whether absence of histamine has an effect on the development of experimental colitis.

Methods: Histamine-deficient, histidine decarboxylase (HDC) knockout Balb/c mice and genetically identical control animals with intact HDC were studied.

Second-line and third-line trial for helicobacter pylori infection in patients with duodenal ulcers: A prospective, crossover, controlled study.

Background: Following standard first-line triple therapies for Helicobacter pylori infection, up to 20% of patients require further eradication.

Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the effects of second-line triple therapies and third-line quadruple therapies for the eradication of H pylori.

Methods: This 7-week, prospective, crossover, controlled, second- and third-line trial was conducted at the Department of Gastroenterology, Ferencváros Health Center (Budapest, Hungary).

The effect of heat-inactivated Helicobacter pylori on the blastogenic response of peripheral blood mononuclear cells of patients with chronic urticaria.

Background: Helicobacter pylori, the most important etiologic factor of gastritis and peptic ulcer, has recently been associated with several extradigestive diseases. Previous studies reported conflicting results on H. pylori eradication in chronic urticaria, in that some studies showed a benefit, while others found no effect.

[Helicobacter detected in children of Helicobacter pylori-positive parents].

The authors examined 48 children of Helicobacter pylori positive parents: 52% were serologically positive for Helicobacter pylori using the Orion Diagnostics Pyloriset Latex agglutination test. Of these children 10 had upper abdominal pain, heartburn and acid eructation and osesophagogastroscopy was performed; seven were found to be Helicobacter pylori positive histologically. These results draw attention to the transmission of Helicobacter pylori infection within families.

[Studying the role of Helicobacter pylori infection in recurrent abdominal pain in children].

The authors studied the role of Helicobacter pylori at recurrent abdominal pain in childhood. Helicobacter pylori infection hasn't been found at the 42 examined children. The endoscopy showed esophagitis in 34 cases.
