Optimising an immersive virtual reality behaviour change intervention to support retired and non-working adults to reduce their sedentary behaviour: a mini-focus group interview study.

Objective: Prolonged sedentary behaviour is associated with numerous negative health outcomes. Immersive virtual reality (IVR) offers opportunities for retired and non-working adults to take part in meaningful non-sedentary activities that may not be available to them in their natural environment. Using the behaviour change wheel and theoretical domains framework, an IVR intervention prototype was developed.

Structurally and electronically driven uniaxial negative thermal expansion in BaIrO.

Negative thermal expansion is known to exist in a range of structure types but is extremely rare in hexagonal perovskites. Here we demonstrate that BaIrO displays negative linear thermal expansion in the direction of its face-shared IrO trimers, and apparent zero volume thermal expansion below 100 K. We present evidence that this anomalous thermal expansion is driven by an unusual form of rigid body phonon behaviour governed by the effective trimer valence state and therefore has structural and electronic components to the underlying mechanism.

Selumetinib in adults with NF1 and inoperable plexiform neurofibroma: a phase 2 trial.

The MEK inhibitor selumetinib induces objective responses and provides clinical benefit in children with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) and inoperable plexiform neurofibromas (PNs). To evaluate whether similar outcomes were possible in adult patients, in whom PN growth is generally slower than in pediatric patients, we conducted an open-label phase 2 study of selumetinib in adults with NF1 PNs. The study was designed to evaluate objective response rate (primary objective), tumor volumetric responses, patient-reported outcomes and pharmacodynamic effects in PN biopsies.

How the bone microenvironment shapes the pre-metastatic niche and metastasis.

The bone is a frequent metastatic site, with changes in the mineralized bone and the bone marrow milieu that can also prime other sites for metastasis by educating progenitor cells to support metastatic spread. Stromal and immune populations cooperatively maintain the organizationally complex bone niches and are dysregulated in the presence of a distant primary tumor and metastatic disease. Interrogating the bone niches that facilitate metastatic spread using innovative technologies holds the potential to aid in preventing metastasis in and mediated by the bone.

Abdominal POCUS Education for Clinicians: A Systematic Review of Teaching Methods for Point-of-Care Abdominal Ultrasonography.

This systematic review examines educational strategies in clinician-performed abdominal point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), a critical skill with increasing relevance in medical care. Analyzing 28 studies, we highlight the strategies as well as advantages and disadvantages of various theoretical and practical components, including, for example, e-learning and simulation in training programs. The findings emphasize the necessity of blending various educational methods to enhance effectiveness and adaptability in training environments.
